• May perform routine histology techniques including but not limited to: tissue embedding cutting staining coverslipping labeling and case distribution.
• May perform special histology and/or cytology specimen processing procedures including but limited to muscle and nerve biopsy preparation fine needle aspiration immunohistochemical staining histochemical stains and bone marrow processing.
• Accessions specimens into computer system.
• Assists pathologist or pathology assistant in performing gross examination of tissue specimens. Assist Pathologist and/or Clinician in obtaining bone marrow specimens.
• May perform gross on select specimens under the supervision of the Pathologist.
• May prepare frozen sections and other immediate attention specimens for intraoperative diagnosis.
• May perform miscellaneous tasks including but not limited to: routine maintenance specimen filing sending reference lab specimens and preparing reagents or solutions.
• Assists with student teaching and training.
• Assists with quality assurance and continuous quality improvement projects.

• Associates Transcript showing 12 semester hours (18 quarter hours) of chemistry and biology (must include credit hours in both) or
• Some College acceptance into an accredited histology certification program
• Histotechnician (HT) - American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) within 1-1/2 Yrs

• 1-3 years of full time acceptable experience in a histopathology (clinical veterinary industry or research) laboratory from an accredited laboratory within the last five years
