Grade 6 and 7 Investigating History: Professional Learning Community
Description:
The Investigating History Professional Learning Community (PLC) will support teachers in refining the Investigating History curriculum for grades 6 and 7. During the school year team members will meet after school to internalize the curriculum and explore ways to enhance writing tasks embed student-centered literacy strategies review student work samples and share strategies and scaffolds to support diverse learners. Members will report to the K-8 Social Studies Director Marena MacLaughlin.
Working Time:
- 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm
- Meetings 1x per month for 1.5 hours each
- We will meet on mutually agreed days/times
Qualifications:
- Current Grade 6 Social Studies Teacher
- Current Grade 7 Social Studies Teacher
Preferred Qualifications:
- Rich and varied experience with literacy curriculum and instruction
- Strong growth mindset and collaborative skills
- Student-centered approach to instruction with high expectations for student achievement
Essential Duties:
- Attend meetings to discuss the implementation of the Investigating History in Grades 6 and 7.
- Regularly review and adjust pacing guides to reflect student progress and instructional needs.
- Collaboratively plan and analyze using structured protocols to collaboratively unpack curriculum units internalize lesson content and examine student work.
- Analyze student work using common rubrics to ensure consistent and equitable evaluation.
- Use data from student work to inform instruction monitor progress and address learning gaps.
- Share effective uses of student-centered literacy strategies scaffolds and best practices with colleagues to enhance instruction.
- Collaborate on approaches that increase student engagement and achievement.
- Identify and implement scaffolds and differentiated strategies to support the needs of diverse learners including English learners students with disabilities and advanced learners.
- Ensure equitable access to high-quality instruction for all students.
Compensation: $540 (1 session per month between September and May for 1.5 hours each session for a total of 13.5 hours)
