How youll contribute

A Patient Access Representative who excels in this role:

• Performs receptionist registration and clerical duties associated with direct and scheduled patient admissions.
• Ensures that all necessary demographic billing and clinical information is obtained and entered in the registration system with timeliness and accuracy.
• Distributes and explains forms documents and educational handouts to patients or family members.
• Meets with patient or patients caregiver before or after admission to exchange necessary information and documentation. Provides explanation of process and addresses concerns and questions.
• Communicates with admitting physicians office nursing unit staff and/or other appropriate personnel regarding admission to exchange necessary information and determine placement.
• Maintains current knowledge of all rules and regulations governing third party admissions/registrations and pre-certification requirements
• Verifies insurance eligibility and creates estimates based on services rendered including co-pays deductibles and out-of-pocket amounts.
• Verifies precertification/authorization on file matches test/procedure/services being performed.
• Maintains an acceptable registration error rate & collections goal.

What were looking for

• Applicants should have a high school diploma or the equivalent.
• Two years college or medical office specialist education is preferred.
• 2 years of experience in hospital patient access/registration or a medical office with emphasis on medical insurance and collections/accounts receivable is required.
  Appropriate level of other hospital clerical or relevant customer service experience is given consideration in lieu of.
• BLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) is required within 90 days of hire if not current upon hire.
