The West Chester Area School District has the following position available:
1.0 HVAC Mechanic #1
SUMMARY:
The HVAC Mechanic #1 is responsible for maintaining repairing and installation of HVAC equipment building automation controls and related systems in all District buildings to provide and maintain a safe working and learning environment for the staff and students. Must be available for emergencies and off-hours work as needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Knowledge and ability to trouble shoot and repair air conditioning refrigeration heating ventilation fans pumps piping sheet metals duct work associated with HVAC equipment.
- Install maintain and repair HVAC systems including boilers chillers air handlers controls ductwork and related components.
- Ability to calibrate repair replace troubleshoot equipment associated with pneumatic digital and analog controls for all HVAC equipment.
- Diagnose mechanical electrical and control system failures in HVAC equipment.
- Perform preventative maintenance on all types of HVAC equipment as per assignment work order system and/or preventative maintenance program.
- Responsible for recovery of refrigeration as per the Universal Refrigerant recovery laws.
- Reviews blueprints and specifications for new projects and installations to ensure working relationship with current systems and equipment.
- Ability to install maintain repair troubleshoot all equipment associated with plumbing to include but not limited to: overhead and underground piping bathroom fixtures and facilities manual electronic and automatic valves copper black galvanized and plastic piping drinking fountains potable and heating water equipment hot water heaters ice machines pumps etc.
- Responsible for maintaining HVAC equipment tools stock and storage areas in safe working conditions.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards codes and environmental regulations.
- Assist in energy conservation efforts by identifying inefficiencies and proposing solutions.
- Serve as subject matter expert and interface with project coordinators on capital reserve general fund and bond project design and review.
- Perform project site visits and inspections as needed.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or equivalent necessary
- Certification in Universal Refrigerant Recovery required
- Valid PA drivers license
- Possess effective interpersonal skills with the ability to interface diplomatically with other teachers administrators parents students support staff and outside professional contacts
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Five years of practical experience in commercial HVAC and refrigeration trades
- Trade school pertaining to HVAC
- HVAC Journeyman Certificate
- Experience with Building Automation Systems (BAS)
Qualified candidate will be required to do the following:
- Work with height utilizing ladders cranes buckets etc.
- Reach above and below the waist
- Walk and use fingers to pick feel and grasp objects
- Use both hands for repetitive motion
- Bend twist kneel stoop climb and crawl
- Lift/carry supplies weighing 70 lbs. or more
- Work in an external environment subject to temperatures below 32 degrees or above 100 degrees
- Stand or walk eighty percent (80%) of workday
- Work alone and with little supervision.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:
- Reports directly to the Building Control Systems and Energy Management Supervisor
- Works cooperatively with all administrators supervisors staff and others to perform job responsibilities as outlined
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- 12-month (260-262 days)
- Salary & Benefits are as described in the current Collective Bargaining Agreement. Starting at $38.85 per hour.
