This Position reports to:

Reliability Engineering Manager

Your role and responsibilities:

In this role you will focus on hands on failure analysis to improve product quality and reliability. You will provide root cause analysis. You will work with a dynamic interdisciplinary team of engineers and cross functional support teams to support & improve VFDs (variable frequency drives).

This role is contributing to the Motion Drive Products Division in New Berlin WI

You will be mainly accountable for:

Provide root cause analysis for both factory and field failures of low voltage (120V-600V) VFDs. Thoroughly and professionally documenting the analysis investigations and root cause categorization in a database.
Utilize your knowledge and lab instrumentation to investigate the root causes of failures and recommend corrective actions. Operate recommend selection and maintain a variety of lab electrical and scientific instrumentation.
Mentor junior engineers and develop failure analysis processes and procedures while providing data analytics to spot trends and improve product reliability.
Collaborate with fellow reliability engineers both locally and globally to support resolution of difficult cases and work with R&D Product Engineering Suppliers Production & Supplier Quality and Technical Support to ensure corrective actions are taken based on Failure Analysis findings.

Qualifications for the role:

Bachelors or masters (preferred) degree in Electrical or Reliability Engineering with minimum of 10 years of experience in electrical/reliability engineering failure analysis or a related rolepreferably in the VFD or power electronics industry.
Strong background in root cause analysis techniques (e.g. FMEA DFMA 5 Whys RRCA 8-D Fault trees Affinity Diagram etc.)
Excellent communication both written and verbal database documentation and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Desired: Strong digital analog FPGA micro-processor power electronics and AC motor drive background.
Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US.
