Job Summary

The School of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) provides a vibrant and nurturing environment for staff and students to carry out inter-disciplinary research in key areas such as Computational Materials Science Characterisation Materials Science Defence Composite Materials Functional Composite Materials Energy Nanomaterials Low Dimensional Materials Biomaterials Materials Biological Materials Bioinspired Materials and Sustainable Materials.

The Wu Research Group in MSE at NTU is working on cutting-edge research and development in textile materials for personalized healthcare and sustainability. We develop functional fiber materials with specific photonic and electronic properties by polymer molecular engineering and fiber structure design. Together with advanced textile technology machine learning and life cycle assessment we aim to create sustainable wearable systems to enhance human well-being.

For more details please view are looking for aResearch Fellow to develop advanced wet-spinning processes for conductive polymers enabling next-generation fabric-based sensors and thermoregulation systems. The role will focus on the design and fabrication of conductive polymer fibers and their devices advancing NTUs mission of pioneering cutting-edge materials research for sustainable healthcare and energy-efficient solutions while supporting the schools vision of translating fundamental science into impactful technologies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the conduct of research projects with research team members to ensure timely completion of deliverables.

  • Lead the design fabrication and characterization of conductive polymer fibers and their integration into wearable sensing and thermoregulation devices.

  • Programme experimental protocols data acquisition workflows and analysis scripts for materials and device performance evaluation.

  • Configure wet-spinning and post-processing equipment for conductive polymer fiber production and device assembly.

  • Develop novel material formulations spinning parameters and device architectures to enhance sensing accuracy and thermal performance.

  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders on interdisciplinary research projects in smart textiles wearable electronics and sustainable materials.

  • Mentoring graduate and undergraduate students in experimental techniques data analysis and research ethics.

  • Assist in grant writing and preparation of research proposals to secure external funding.

  • Maintain laboratory operations including equipment upkeep procurement of consumables and liaison with suppliers.

  • Assist in or produce high-quality technical reports manuscripts and presentations that consolidate and disseminate research findings.

Job Requirements:

  • PhD degree in Materials Science Polymer Science Textile Engineering Chemical Engineering or a related field.

  • Strong hands-on experience in conductive polymer synthesis fiber/wet-spinning processes and characterization of fibrous materials.

  • Proven track record in wearable electronics fabric-based sensors or thermal management materials will be an advantage.

  • Proficiency in experimental design data analysis and scientific programming tools (e.g. MATLAB Python or equivalent).

  • Good written and oral communication skills with demonstrated ability to prepare high-quality research publications and technical reports.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to develop innovative solutions under tight timelines.

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with meticulous attention to detail.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in an interdisciplinary research team.

  • Experience in mentoring students or junior researchers is preferred.
