Newmedica is one of the leading providers of NHS-funded ophthalmology services in England.
We deliver over 125000 patient interactions annually including outpatient appointments diagnostic testing and eye surgery. Our services are delivered through a variety of models including Managed Services and Ophthalmology Joint Venture (OJV) Partnerships.
ROLE SUMMARY
The Ophthalmic Training Lead has a pivotal role in maintaining excellent partnerships with course providers and the coordination of student placement requirements as well as leading the provision of training/development of the clinical team and maintenance of the volunteer programme.
The Ophthalmic Training Lead works closely with the departmental leads to assist with managing the efficient and safe running of our Theatre and Outpatient services and deputises in their absence. The role comprises of clinical and non-clinical duties 3:1 respectively. Clinical duties are across the service on both sites; diagnostics pre- and post-op assessments admission discharge theatre duties including scrub and part of the advisory on-call team. Non-clinical duties include oversight of clinical activity and staffing incident investigations clinical triage line management support and mentorship for the team volunteers and students.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Education & Training
To enhance the partnership with course providers and coordinators for placements.
To be key contact with course providers in order to coordinate student placements and assign assessor/supervisors.
To maintain a formal structure for placement provision that we can share to assure the course provider and set expectations for the students and assessors.
To oversee that placement and assessor requirements are fulfilled liaising with the link coordinator at the course provider as necessary.
To increase student placement volumes revenue and feedback processes.
To lead the training mentorship and assessment requirements of the clinical team and ensure competence and high standards are maintained.
To work closely with the Human Resources team to ensure a smooth transition for new recruits.
To ensure the clinical team; contracted employees and flexible bank staff registered and non-registered receive an effective orientation and induction and any necessary supervision.
To link with Newmedica Learning & Development team for training resources and course information to ensure CPD requirements are fulfilled across the service.
To support the Clinical Service Manager and departmental Leads with registered staff revalidation requirements as necessary.
To coordinate the volunteer programme and establish other such initiatives to benefit the service.
