Job Duties:

Applications will be considered for vacancies that occur from August 15 2025 to June 30 2026.

This position reports to the Patrol Sergeant and enforces laws investigates complaints and incidents maintains order identifies criminal activity and apprehends and arrest offenders to ensure safety and security on all institutional properties. This is a sworn law enforcement position under the general direction of a ranking officer or supervisor.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Provides protection of life property and the preservation of peace and good order and provides emergency aid to the institutional community
  • Performs preliminary and follow-up investigations to solve crimes identify suspects and victims apprehend criminals and document case information
  • Engages in problem solving threat mitigation and conflict resolution for a wide range of issues and incidents involving citizens groups campus entities government agencies businesses leaders and others
  • Ensures the safe and orderly flow of traffic on institutional roadways and enforces traffic laws
  • Provides personal safety and crime prevention education to institutional community

Compensation:

Hourly salary range of $27.00 - $35.00.

This position will earn an additional $0.80 per hour for all weekend hours worked as well as for all hours worked between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m.

This position is not exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

Required Qualifications:

  • Completed 60 College Credits at time of application
  • Wisconsin Certified Law Enforcement Officer or Certifiable upon appointment
  • Possession of or eligible to obtain a valid Wisconsin drivers license upon appointment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associates degree in criminal justice at time of application
  • Bilingual preferably in Spanish Hmong Somali or Oneida
  • Experience in Law Enforcement or Security Operations

Physical Qualifications:

  • Ability to maintain the strength stamina dexterity and overall physical fitness required for the performance of duties
  • Ability to be on foot for ten or more hours
  • Possess the ability to take defensive measures in the event of a physical assault

Other Qualification:

  • Considerable knowledge of Constitution of the United States of America Wisconsin State Statutes Wisconsin Administrative codes University and department rules policies and procedures
  • Considerable knowledge of investigative methods and techniques proper preparation of all reports and forms
  • Ability to observe and recall facts and details about persons events accident scenes physical conditions and human behaviors
  • Knowledge and skill in defense and arrest tactics emergency vehicle operation use of force crowd control techniques and assigned equipment techniques
  • Ability to communicate with clear and concise speech at all times including in extremely stressful and non-stressful situations
  • Above Average abilities in multitasking; including the ability to perform a physical task while appropriately processing verbal or written information
  • Excellent judgment including sensitivity to personal and confidential information
  • Knowledge of crime prevention techniquesenforcement procedures andproblem solving techniques
  • Knowledge and skill in first aid and CPR
  • Proficiency in word processing database applications and Internet
  • Ability to communicate with a diverse community of individuals
  • Ability to read and understand complex printed materials

Conditions of Appointment:

Position is a part-time temporaryUniversity Staff appointment. The work hours for this position will be as needed. The schedule will vary to include days nights weekends holidays or special events based on departmental need.

A criminal conviction investigation medical exam psychological exam vision screening physical agility assessment and pre-employment drug screening will be conducted on the finalist(s). In addition if the final selected candidate has prior work history within the last 7 years with Universities of Wisconsin a personnel file review check for employee misconduct will be completed. A twelve-month probationary period is required for this compliance with the Wisconsin Fair Employment Act the University does not discriminate on the basis of arrest or conviction record.

Employee Misconduct
