Job Summary
The Engineering team is seeking an Encoder Engineer to support video encoding and packaging workflows across IP video platforms. This hands-on role focuses on the operational side of video encoding working directly with Linux systems virtual machines and physical servers to test configure and maintain encoding environments. The engineer will execute test cases validate video quality and support packaging flows from ingest through delivery ensuring best-in-class video experiences for the companys customers. This is not a design or architecture role; instead the engineer will be the technical backbone for testing validation and operational execution across encoding workflows.
Responsibilities
- Support encoding workflows and ensure smooth end-to-end video processing (ingest encode package delivery).
- Install configure and maintain operating systems on Linux servers and virtual machines used in encoding environments.
- Perform hands-on work with both virtualized and physical server environments (rack stack and ticketing for hardware as needed).
- Execute and document encoding test cases validating functional and quality requirements.
- Monitor and assess video quality using industry tools and standards (VMAF PSNR SSIM etc.).
- Troubleshoot issues across encoding packaging and streaming workflows.
- Collaborate with vendor and MSO partners to integrate and validate encoder solutions.
- Support video packaging flows (HLS DASH CMAF etc.) and send packaged video to downstream systems.
- Provide operational support for upgrades patches and system reliability improvements.
- Contribute to documentation and knowledge-base for repeatable processes and future team reference.
Required Skills : Must-Have Qualifications 5 years of experience in video encoding transcoding or related video engineering roles. Strong knowledge of Linux administration and ability to build/install OS images. Experience with virtual machine environments (VMware KVM or equivalent). Hands-on experience with physical server maintenance (rack/stack troubleshooting tickets). Familiarity with video encoding workflows and common codecs (H.264/AVC H.265/HEVC AV1). Understanding of packaging formats (HLS DASH CMAF). Ability to run and document test cases troubleshoot issues and validate results. Strong grasp of video quality measurement methodologies and tools. Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work cross-functionally with other engineering and operations teams. Nice-to-Have Skills Experience with commercial encoder solutions (MediaKind Harmonic Ateme Imagine etc.). Familiarity with containerization (Docker Kubernetes) in media environments. Knowledge of cloud-based video workflows (AWS Media Services etc.). Scripting ability (Python Bash) for automation of test cases and workflows. Experience in large-scale MSO or broadcast environments.
