The CLPNA exists to protect Alberta healthcare users. Our first responsibility is to the public. We regulate the profession of Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) setting and maintaining standards to ensure the public receives safe competent and ethical healthcare services. Our focus and commitment to public protection and regulatory excellence underscores everything we do. The CLPNA has partnered with Alberta Health to lead the development and the continued operations of the Alberta Health Care Aide (HCA) Alberta HCAs are not a regulated profession although HCAs will become regulated under the Health Professions Act in the future.
This is a full-time permanent appointment. The position is eligible for hybrid work with a requirement to work in our Edmonton office on a regular weekly basis. We may use this opportunity to fill other available vacancies in this role.
The Registration Competence Advisor is responsible for assessing applicants utilizing a Substantial Equivalence framework and providing expertise in delivering the Continuing Competence Program. The position also requires consultation with applicants practitioners identified partners and committees regarding the LPN and HCA professions.
The Registration Competence Advisor excels in providing education and support with strong communication and customer service skills while maintaining professionalism and a collaborative mindset. They demonstrate keen attention to detail effective problem-solving and the ability to manage competing priorities in dynamic environments. This role will need to have an awareness of healthcare trends at all levels to enhance their capacity to support HCAs LPNs and broader nursing practices.
The ideal candidate will have expertise in substantial equivalence and PLAR trends affecting HCA and LPN education and practice along with the ability to innovate and enhance consultation and registration processes. They will have a clear understanding of educational initiatives and experience teaching others as a subject matter expert with the innate ability to guide others on nursing and continuing competence all while delivering strong support and customer service to applicants and registrants.
