DescriptionWe are searching for a Milk Bank Technician- someone to store prepare and deliver a mothers breast milk and/or pasteurized donor human milk to hospitalized infants. To provide assistance to mothers of hospitalized infants expressing milk for their infants in a manner appropriate and as necessary. The Milk Bank is a centralized mixing department within Texas Childrens Hospital responsible for preparing both formula and breast milk orders based on physical instructions documented in Epic. Staff members play a critical role in ensuring accurate safe and timely preparation of nutritional products for patients.

- Knowledge of milk preparation measurement and sanitary techniques
- Ability to maintain sanitation levels operate computers on a basic level and operate electronic scales analyzer and centrifuge with a higher degree of accuracy
As part of our commitment to maintaining a safe and healthy workplace all successful candidates will be required to undergo respiratory fit testing in compliance with occupational health and safety standards.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- High School Diploma or GED
- 6 months healthcare related work experience ** a BS degree in Nutrition or Healthcare related field can substitute for 6 months experience**
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS
- 1 year nutrition or breastfeeding education experience
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Accurately weighs measures and prepares mothers own and/or pasteurized donor human milk for infant feeding per physicians orders
- Calculates accurate quantities of mothers own/pasteurized donor human milk and human milk fortifiers based on diet order
- Monitors all needed milk preparation/storage supplies and discards expired nutritional additives
- Uses and practices proper storage times and temperatures for human milk at all times to minimize bacterial growth and
- according to written standards. Rotates stored milk to minimize undue wastage
- Enters patient charges into EPM computer system on a daily basis
- Prepares labels to accurately identify mothers own/pasteurized donor human milk for individually prepared feedings
- Maintains competencies required to efficiently and effectively utilize milk preparation/storage equipment and supplies
- Communicates with parents delivering milk to the Milk Bank to ensure proper collection and storage of mothers
- own/pasteurized donor human milk
- Communicates with appropriate medical/nursing personnel for needed assistance with feeding order clarification
- Communicates inventory shortages or special-order needs to Manager as appropriate to meet patient care needs
