Job Summary:The Engineering Research IV presents documented evidence of an established national or international reputation within the scope of assigned duties. Documented evidence should include success in pursuing external funding as principle investigator and/or Co-PI or Co-I leading or co-leading contribution to the dissemination of findings or knowledge including but not limited to public access such as on-line and through exhibits peer-reviewed reports and publications and presentation at meetings.

Additional Department Summary:The Alabama Materials Institute (AMI) facilitates interdisciplinary materials research encompassing metallurgy ceramics polymers bio-inspired materials and composites. Teams of researchers faculty and students work collaboratively to identify and advance new materials understand their fundamental properties and develop novel processes for synthesis fabrication and manufacturing using advanced experimental and computational approaches.

Provides leadership direction and support to AMI research programs. Supports proposal development across a broad spectrum of materials research-related domains such as metallurgy ceramics polymers composites and biomaterials. Provides advanced user training on AMI facility resources. Engages with internal and external stakeholders and supports AMI leadership in related research and administrative activities.

Required Minimum Qualifications:Masters degree and ten (10) years of engineering or closely related research experience; OR doctoral degree and seven (7) years of engineering or closely related research experience.

Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Due to requirements of the funding source must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident.

Skills and Knowledge:Knowledge of analytical characterization methods proposal writing skills technical writing. Project management skills. Experience supervising technical staff. Proven track record of awarded technical research proposals and successful demonstration of technical program outcomes. Technical development in instrumentation and techniques and/or materials analysis development.

Preferred Qualifications:Masters degree or higher in a STEM discipline and at least ten years of technical experience in an academic environment federal lab and/or industrial setting. Prefer experience directly related to AMI facility instruments.
