About Harris County Flood Control District:
The Flood Control District has the mission to reduce the risk of flooding in Harris County the third most populated county in the United States with a population in excess of 4.7 million including the City of Houston the nations fourth largest city. The Flood Control District has jurisdiction over the primary stormwater facilities in the county which consist of approximately 1500 channels totaling nearly 2500 miles in length as well as more than 60 regional stormwater detention basins totaling more than 10000 acres and several wetlands mitigation banks including Greens bayou.What you will do atHarris County Flood Control District:
The Harris County Flood Control District is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Heavy Equipment Operator with the Infrastructure Repairs Department.
This position will be responsible for operating various pieces of heavy construction equipment and hand tools to perform construction activities that maintain open channels within Harris County.
Essential Functions and Duties:- Must demonstrate ability to drive and operate heavy equipment and trucks on all terrain surfaces.
- Perform minor erosion repairs and perform grading of surfaces on open channels and around drainage elements.
- Install corrugated metal pipe outfalls.
- Construct forms place rebar and finish concrete structures.
- Build manholes and inlets.
- Clear rights-of-way of trees rocks and any other large obstacles.
- Load and unload crawler on flatbed/rollback truck and drive trucks to/from job sites.
- Operate and maintain heavy equipment including excavators dozers and backhoes.
- Operate and maintain hand tools including tractors pole saws chainsaws etc.
- Perform other duties that may be added or changed as the course and scope of the job directs.

Requirements
- Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Education:
- High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent
Experience:
- Three (3) years of experience in field operations maintenance or a related field.
- Knowledge of construction standards practices and techniques.
Licensure:
- Valid Class B Texas Drivers License.
- Heavy construction equipment
- Transport trucks dump trucks and crew vehicles.
- Small equipment including generators water pumps air compressors chain saws and tractors.
- Two-way radio and a variety of hand tools.

Preferences
Experience:
- Knowledge of bayou drainage area and rights-of-way maintenance including but not limited to mowing application of various herbicides cutting and clearing brush and debris removal. (preferred)

- 100% of duties are performed outdoors where there will be routine exposure to significant levels of heat cold moistureair pollution wind and dust.
- May be exposed to vegetation retardants herbicides and fertilizers petroleum products including but not limited togasoline oil grease diesel and other fuels and lubricants snakes wildlife wasps bees and other flying or walkinginsects aquatic bacteria viruses and other microorganisms and vibration or noise in excess of 85 decibels.
