Job Summary

Position Function:

To perform clerical and related duties in making appointments. Will receive and direct patients to proper department and provider source. Will cross train into patient reception to include data entry to medical practice system. Will also require training in check out procedures.

Salary Grade:08

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Make appointments and assign patients to appropriate provider based upon clinical
criteria and insurance status.
2. Receive patients and direct them to proper department.
3. Set up files and medical records.
4. File and retrieve records and reports.
5. Assist in explaining medical charges and making collections as needed.
6. Operate various office machines.
7. Perform related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent. One year of clerical experience.
-or- Any equivalent combination of related experience and/or education approved by the Department of Human Resources Management.

Preferred Qualifications:

Education or experience beyond the minimum requirements with special consideration to applicants with experience in a medical environment. Previous experience with patient appointment scheduling and appointment system management and/or medical records background.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

Computer applications experience. Customer service experience. Experience with computers. Telephone skills. Customer service skills. Ability to multi-task.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

No unusual physical requirements. Requires no heavy lifting and nearly all work is performed in a comfortable indoor facility.

Routine deadlines; usually sufficient lead time; variance in work volume seasonal and predictable; priorities can be anticipated; some interruptions are present; involves occasional exposure to demands and pressures from persons other than immediate supervisor.

Job frequently requires sitting reaching talking hearing and handling objects with hands.

Job occasionally requires standing walking stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling and lifting up to 10 pounds.

Vision requirements: Ability to see information in print and/or electronically.
