The CAMH Molecular Neuropsychiatry and Development (MiND) Lab is a leader in Canadian molecular biology research on intellectual and developmental disorders. Reporting to the Project Lead we are seeking a part-time contract (3 months) Research Assistant 1 who will work both independently as well as provide support to the team as a whole. The Research Assistant 1 will further support the Project Lead and team in the execution of various projects through the preparation of presentations and maintaining databases and preparation of data for analysis preparation of tables and figures literature searches and supporting manuscript preparation for publications.

The candidate must be a self-starter with the ability to work both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team. The successful candidate will have excellent capacity for self-directed learning/working and require minimal supervision. You will support and contribute to a healthy workplace that embraces diversity encourages teamwork and complies with all applicable regulatory and legislative requirements.

The successful candidate will have completed Grade 12 and/or special courses. Post-Secondary Certificate or College Diploma in a related discipline and relevant research experience will be an asset. Practical experience in plasmid manipulation including mutagenesis fragment cloning propagation and sequencing cell culture including transfection CRISPR-Cas9 editing and clone screening genomic DNA extraction PCR and sequencing slide preparation antibody staining and confocal microscopy to detect fluorescent signal colocalization protein extraction and Western blot are a must. Superior interpersonal planning time management organizational critical thinking problem-solving skills are also required.

The successful candidate must be willing to take initiative have the ability to prioritize work effectively and efficiently with minimal supervision. Advanced computer skills including familiarity with UCSC and NCBI genome browsers and Uniprot database primer design and cloning software such as SnapGene analyzing SNP data using Homozygosity Mapper analyzing microscope and Western blot images using ImageJ molecular docking with MOE software as well as the Microsoft Office applications (Outlook Word Excel and PowerPoint) are required. The ability to work with team members and stakeholders of diverse cultural and social backgrounds is necessary. Bilingualism (French/English) and/or proficiency in a second language are assets.

Please Note: This is a part-time contract (3 months) position is part of the OPSEU Bargaining Unit.
