School Counselor Job Description and Responsibilities:Qualifications: He/she has a Masters Degree or pursuing a Masters Degree in Educational Counseling or the like with experience in K-12 or College : He/she will participate in all guidance related matters and is accountable to the Director of School Counseling and the Assistant PrincipalResponsibilities:1. Individual school counseling services for all students on caseload2. Consult with administrators faculty parents and outside agencies regarding any issue of an assigned students3. Identify and monitor at-risk students4. Senior check-ins to make sure they are on track for college applications and deadlines5. Provide personalized College Planning support to all juniors and seniors on the caseload- including individual family college planning meetings junior year6. Monitor all student course selection and recommendations for scheduling including reviewing all schedules before they go out to students/families7. Provide group counseling and workshops including: Common App Exam Preparation Naviance Junior College Planning8. Participate in the planning and execution of the College Fair9. Attend and participate in weekly SST meetings and keep track of all missing assignments incompletes and at-risk student behavior of all students on caseload10. Review all report cards11. Write individual letters of recommendation for all seniors on caseload12. Provide time management test taking organization note taking and other executive functioning strategies to students in need13. Refer students to Academic Support Services and Mental Health Counseling services as needed14. Participate in the interpretation of documents pertaining to students including but not limited to IEPs 504 Family Court documents School Plans15. Facilitate conversations between students parents and teachers16. Encourage and support students self-advocacy17. Participate in weekend and evening events including: Open House Parent Conferences Jr College Planning night National Honors Society New Student Orientation Graduation and Mass of Welcome18. Proctor standardized tests including PSAT SAT AP exams
