Surgical Tech Certified Cardiac Team St. Francis Downtown
Job Summary:
The Surgical Tech Certified Cardiac Team assists surgeons and nurses with patients equipment preparation aseptic technique and gathering patient and case specific supplies and equipment. The Surgical Tech Certified Cardiac Team will prepare the operating room surgery by assembling routine supplies materials instruments and equipment and will obtain special supplies indicated by physician. The Surgical Tech Certified Cardiac Team also sets up and operates a variety of specialized instrumentation manual and powered equipment.
Essential Functions:
Functions as the scrub person and assists as trained during operative and other invasive procedures by assembling supplies and equipment for the procedure.
Prepares and organizes sterile supplies and instruments for the procedure and performs surgical counts with the circulating RN.
Maintains an organized sterile field and ensures the sterility of the field by taking corrective action as needed. Assists with placement of sterile drapes. Provides instruments and supplies to the surgical team during the procedure and maintains aseptic technique.
Retrieves and collects specimens and labels specimens.
Reports any implanted devices catheters drains and packing to circulator. Provides complete case preparation.
Provides complete case preparation and knows with the ability to adapt of special instruments supplies and equipment needs for patient populations.
Demonstrates knowledge of patients rights and responsibilities according to the patients age and understanding.
Demonstrates understanding of patients Advance Directives.

Education:
Associate degree Vocational Certification or Military Certificate in Surgical Technology (required)
Required Licensing & Certifications:
BLS Basic Life Support American Heart Association ( at hire for Roper St Francis Healthcare locations; preferred at hire prior to independent patient care at BSMH)
Certified in one of the following (required): Certified Surgical Technologist - The National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or Certified Surgical First Technologist- National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) (required)
If employed in South Carolina NBSTSA certification is . If certified prior to 2008 NBSTSA or NCCT certification is accepted.
If employed in Virginia must be certified by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting or its successor and hold a certification with the Virginia Board of Medicine.
Experience:
2 years experience in an Operating Room (required)
Experience in cardiovascular operating room (preferred)
