The position of an 8 hour groundskeeper for the school district is now open. Please note the job description is attached. This is a 12 month 260 days at 8 hours per day total of 2080 hours per year position as per salary schedule.

JOB DESCRIPTION


TITLE: Groundskeeper


RESPONSIBLE TO: Buildings and Grounds Supervisor/Director of School Operations


DEPARTMENT: Business Operations


CLASSIFICATION: Groundskeeper


LENGTH OF CONTRACT: Twelve month contract - 260 days at 8 hours per day - total of 2080 hours per year.

GENERAL DUTIES: Maintains grounds and outside landscaping at all elementary schools the Church St. Building and other sites where extra help is needed.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

  • Mows weed whips and maintain landscaping at all elementary buildings including Colonial AcresTransportation and the Church Street building
  • Mowers and equipment will be moved from one site to another by using pickups and trailers.
  • Picks up trash around the grounds as needed while mowing and weed whipping.
  • Snow removal: A.Will help maintenance crew and other Groundskeepers plow drives and parking lots around the district-including schools and Church Street Building. B. If parking lot plowing is not needed but snow removal on walks is necessary then the groundskeepers would help Custodial Staff where needed with perimeter walks use pickups or trailers to move plows or snow blowers to site. C. Use salt spreader trucks to apply salt to district parking lots when and when and where needed and as assigned.
  • Trees will be trimmed when:
    A. Limbs hang over fences
    B. Broken after storms
    C. Remove broken limbs/branches from school grounds

  • Kills weeds (using Roundup) in landscaping playground mulch and fence lines (also weed eat) when and where needed.
  • Remove fallen leaves and dispose of from schools and Church Street Building.
    Work in conjunction with other Groundskeepers to prepare and stripe athletic fields
  • Minor repairs around the athletic facilities-athletic fields tennis courts and grounds when possible-much as a head custodian would do minor repairs in his building. Major maintenance projects should be referred to maintenance.
  • Any other projects which help beautify and protect the grounds of the areas mentioned above including killing weeds in landscaping mulch and fence lines (also weed whip) when and where needed.
  • Help with moving deliveries and other such chores when time is available.
    Do periodic preventative maintenance on equipment (clean oil/filter changes plugs etc.)
  • Be on call from November 1st April 15th to serve as a day Custodian (head or regular) where needed as long as this does not interfere with snow plowing or another necessary project that might be underway and cannot wait. If the Groundskeeper is directed to cover a higher paid position he would receive the higher rate for the day/days of coverage.
  • If not assigned from November 1st April 15th to some other duty help maintenance personnel with building projects or go to the bus garage and help mechanics as needed (as per direction of the immediate supervisor.)
  • Assume responsibility for such matters as may be assigned by the Director of Business Operations.

NOTE:
Must hold or be willing to obtain a State of Ohio Department of Agriculture Chemical Application Certification. (Employee has 1 year to obtain).
