Key Responsibilities
- Develop and qualify hermetic sealing (AuSn solder seam sealing laser welding) and optical active alignment processes for high-reliability pump laser and submarine products.
- Design and optimize die bond and wire bond processes for high-power laser applications ensuring thermal mechanical and optical stability.
- Establish process specifications control limits and qualification protocols; perform DOE and SPC to achieve robust process capability (Cp/Cpk targets).
- Define and qualify precision alignment bonding and hermetic sealing equipment; lead tooling design and process automation initiatives.
- Collaborate with optical mechanical and reliability teams to ensure manufacturability and compliance with Telcordia GR-468 and submarine reliability requirements.
- Support reliability and qualification testing analyze failures and implement corrective actions.
- Mentor and train engineers and technicians; lead cross-site technical alignment and process transfer to manufacturing.
- Drive yield improvement process cost reduction and technology roadmap execution.
Required Qualifications
- B. Eng or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering Materials Science Optoelectronics or a related field.
- 15 years of experience in optical component or semiconductor packaging with strong focus on hermetic processes optical alignment and bonding.
- Proven experience in pump laser packaging or submarine optical component assembly.
- Deep understanding of materials metallurgy and reliability mechanisms for hermetic packaging.
- Strong knowledge of DOE SPC and process control methods (JMP Minitab).
- Experience with automation high-precision motion/vision systems and cleanroom operations.
- Track record of successful process qualification and transfer to high-volume manufacturing.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with 980 nm / 1480 nm pump lasers and submarine EDFA module packaging.
- Familiarity with vacuum bake getter activation He leak testing and long-term reliability testing.
- Understanding of submarine system reliability requirements and environmental stress testing.
- Cross-site collaboration experience with global manufacturing or contract partners.
