Your mission

Role

TheCampaigns and Media Manageris responsible formanaging and coordinating comms processes in emergency response situations on behalf of the War Child Alliance networkcrafting and executing global campaigns that serve ourglobal advocacy objectives and boost global corporate visibilityandestablishing strong international media relations to secure global coverage for the War Child Alliance Foundation.

Team

The Campaigns and Media Manager is part of the global Communications team in the War Child Alliance Foundation responsible for global campaign management emergency responsecoordinationandinternationalmedia relations. TheCampaigns and Media Managerworksclosely and collaboratively with colleagues from across the War Child Alliance Foundation and Fundraising Member network and reports to the Head of Communications in the global Communications team.


Responsibilities

TheCampaigns and Media Manager:

  • Manages and coordinates communications processes and materials in emergency response situations on behalf of the War Child Alliance.
  • Coordinated the input from comms colleagues across theorganisationto create and execute collaborative global awareness campaigns.
  • Coordinates the input of the Global Head of Advocacy and comms colleagues from across the Alliance membership to develop comms campaign strategies that will help realise the Alliances advocacy objectives and boost global corporate visibility.
  • Scope andidentifyopportunities to place media coverage in global/international mediaoutletsthat progress our advocacy research and development and scaling objectives
  • Work closely with the comms teams of Alliance fundraising members (in the UK Netherlands USSwedenand Germany) to provide meaningful news and media hooks.
  • Provide guidance andoperatein an advisory capacity on global communications toteams across the Alliance network as and when necessary.

Emergency comms leadership

  • Create andmaintainclear communications messaging and guidanceidentifyingcommunicationsrisks andmitigating these through advice and support.
  • Identifyingcontent needs across the War Child Alliancenetwork andworking with our different departments and fundraising members to support the delivery of content requests for external communications purposes.
  • Supports or advises in the creation and refinement of creative concepts scripts narrativesbriefingsand other materials.
  • Sources and distributesquality content and stories that can be usedacrossthe War Child Alliance network.
  • Represent communications in responsemanagementcoordination meetings acting as communications focal point from the response towardWar Child Alliance communications and fundraising colleagues.
  • Coordinate with Humanitarian team on emerging contexts and strategic developments.
  • Participate in communications-focused coalitions such asCeasefireNOW.

Campaign management

  • Coordinate the input of advocacy and communications colleagues from across the Alliance membership to lead the co-creation external campaigns that will help realise the Alliances advocacy and awareness objectives including sourcing content and coordinating related asset development
  • Translate complex policy and advocacy concepts and language into the intelligible inspiring messaging needed to mobilise a variety of audiences in support of our advocacy objectives
  • Work with fundraising colleagues to identify and develop opportunities for the involvement of War Childs corporate partners ambassadors and otherhigh profilesupporters in our campaigns
  • Work with comms colleagues from across the Alliance membership to generatetimelyand topical campaign content for use across the social channels and websites of War Child Alliance members
  • Keep abreast of communications and social media developments trends and technologies exploring and recommending opportunities for War Child to utilise such trends to maximise campaign impact

Media Management

  • Work closely with the comms teams of Alliance fundraising members (in the UK Netherlands USSwedenand Germany) toidentifynews and media hooks and ensure advocacy-related or programmatic media outreach is coordinated with existing media plans within these markets
  • Look for opportunities to place media coverage in global/international mediaoutlets through proactive outreachor bymonitoringthe global media and news agenda for opportunities to provide reactive comments and quotes that progress our advocacy research and development and scaling objectives
  • Cultivate andmaintainmedia lists and relationships with influential global media - including outlets such as CNN New York Times Washington Post BBC Worldwide and Al Jazeera English
  • Draft media plans press releases statements briefings and other media materials as needed
Your profile

Experience Knowledge & Skills

  • Experience ofemergency andcrisis communications(essential)
  • Sound knowledge of global affairs with experience working within the humanitarian or human rights sector in a media or campaigns role (essential)
  • Excellent knowledge of the international media landscape with a demonstrable ability to develop and maintain a network of strong contacts within that landscape (essential)
  • Excellent writing skills with experience of drafting high quality messaging press releases quotes articles and social media posts (essential)
  • Experience of developing and implementing campaign strategies (essential)
  • Significant experience of securing impactful media coverage in support of advocacy objectives (essential)
  • Existing strong contacts withinInternationalmedia covering issues pertinent to the work of War Child (preferred)
  • Experience of preparing charity spokespersons for media interview (preferred)
  • Experience of using a variety of social media channels for campaign purposes(preferred)
  • Able to self-manage work flexibly and as part of a hybrid team (essential)
  • Fluency in English (essential) with a working knowledge of another language (Arabic Dutch French German or Swedish) preferred

War Child is currently operates in: Afghanistan the Central African Republic Colombia DR Congo Germany Jordan Lebanon the occupied Palestinian territory South Sudan Sweden Syria Uganda Ukraine (soon to be registered) and Yemen. We also have offices in the Netherlands and the United Kingdom. Preference is given to applicants who reside and have valid working permits. War Child does not offer relocation.
