Description of the Position: (Purpose of the Position): The student artistic director will assist the faculty director with tasks related to running the ensemble. These may include but are not limited to running rehearsals and helping clean dance work along with the student dancers in the piece artistic creation and collaboration organizing and advertising tasks music technology and interaction with community artists and collaborators. The position is intended to help the student learn and practice various tasks and responsibilities involved in directing a dance company and allow them to gain real world experience in a closely mentored environment.

Transferable Skills: Transferable skills provided by this position include: communication collaboration listening leadership problem solving adaptability attention to detail and the ability to work independently as well as respectful community engagement choreographic input advertising and logistical elements music technology for rehearsals and background research.

Duties and Responsibilities:

- Work closely with the director of Veselica

-Be involved in some of the artistic and choreographic decisions as well as the research and understanding behind them

-Run some rehearsals

-Help rehearse teach and clean the dance work

-Assist students during rehearsals

-Assist with costume fittings where needed (not sewing or constructing)

-Assist with music technology for rehearsals

-Assist with and have input on advertising and logistics

Qualifications: (Education/Experience/Skills)

-Dance experience beyond the beginning level in any genre. Experience in Veselica for at least one year is preferred.

-The ability to demonstrate dance movement material accurately and clearly

-The ability to help students learn movement material during rehearsals

-Leadership and pedagogy skills to run rehearsals

-Interpersonal skills

-Be detailed oriented

-The ability to work independently with integrity

-Must have the rehearsal period free and attend all assigned rehearsals

-Must be dependable responsible and punctual

-Must have some familiarity with department sounds systems and/or be willing to learn.

Wage Range: $11.75-12.75
