Position: Set Design & Construction 3 Musicals ( School Year)

Schedule: Project-Based Evening and Weekend Hours Required
Position Summary:
Lehigh Valley Academy is seeking a skilled and collaborative Set Designer & Builder to oversee the aesthetics conceptualization and construction of sets for three musical productions during the school year. The Set Designer interprets scripts collaborates with the Director and works within budget and scheduling constraints to create safe functional and visually compelling sets. This role combines artistry technical skill and leadership while incorporating student crew members into the process to foster a thriving learning environment.
Responsibilities:
Research conceptualize and plan out sets that align with the artistic vision of each production.
Collaborate with the Director throughout the design and build process to maintain a cohesive vision.
Work alongside the Producer/Arts Coordinator/Director to schedule build time and coordinate itineraries.
Source materials organize purchase lists and maintain reimbursement records within budget.
Construct sets in a safe appropriate manner using proper tools and materials.
Incorporate student crew members into the design and build process providing guidance and mentorship.
Ensure the Theatre room remains clean safe and functional for instruction (in coordination with Ms. Pascale).
Follow the agreed-upon production calendar and meet all deadlines for set completion.
Assist with load-in build sets in the performance space and facilitate safe efficient strike procedures.
Organize maintain and store all set materials efficiently throughout the production cycle.
Qualifications:
Experience in set design carpentry or theatrical production.
Strong understanding of theatre aesthetics stagecraft and construction methods.
Excellent organizational and budgeting skills.
Ability to collaborate with staff students and volunteers.
Commitment to maintaining a safe and educational environment for student crew.
Availability for evenings weekends and all performances including strike (mandatory).
Additional Information:
This is a stipend position covering three musical productions during the school year. The Set Designer must be present for design construction rehearsals as needed performances and strike.
