JOB TITLE: TEACHER ASSISTANT (INCLUDES K-12 CLASSROOM AND NCPK)
FLSA STATUS: NON-EXEMPT
GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
Under limited supervision of the teacher and/or principal provides support to the teacher in the instruction of students. Performs tasks to support the teacher in the teaching-learning process for students. Reports to the teacher and/or principal.

Performs other related duties as assigned by the teacher and/or principal.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Associates degree in education or equivalent preferred in a related field or any equivalent combination of education training and experience that provides the knowledge skills and abilities required to perform the job functions.
For NCPK Teacher Assistants the following education and credentials are required:
(a) All teacher assistants shall have a high school diploma or its equivalent and shall either:
(1) hold a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential; or
(2) hold or be working toward an Associate Degree or higher in birth-through-kindergarten child development early childhood education or an early childhood education-related field. Teacher assistants working toward the Associate Degree shall make progress by completing a minimum of six semester hours per year.
STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Physical Requirements: Must be physically able to lift and move objects related to the job functions. Physical demand requirements are for light work.
Data Conception: Requires the ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable characteristics of data people or things.
Interpersonal Communication: Requires the ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information. Includes giving instructions assignments or directions to students.
Language Ability: Requires the ability to read forms and materials associated with the job functions.
Intelligence: Requires the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.
Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to record and deliver information to explain procedures to follow oral and written instructions. Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently in standard English.
Numerical Aptitude: Requires the ability to add subtract divide and multiply.
Form/Spatial Aptitude: Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length width and shape.
Motor Coordination: Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes accurately in using instructional objects.
Color Discrimination: Requires the ability to differentiate between colors or shades of color.
Interpersonal Temperament: Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under average levels of stress.
Physical Communications: Requires the ability to talk and hear.
