Job Summary

The Community Education and Resource Specialist/Coordinator creates and leads engaging webinars and educational sessions for clients and community partnersresponds to inquiries from the community via email phone in person contact and social media. They create up to date resources for our resource guide. This role ensures individuals receive timely accurate resources and promotes awareness of available programs and supports.

Duties specific to this position

  • Accurately and quickly answer Information and Referral (I&R) questions that come to The Arc of King County through a variety of platforms..
  • Designs and delivers presentations trainings and classes on topics related to disability services and advocacy. Facilitates sessions in an engaging inclusive and culturally responsive manner for diverse audiences including individuals with IDD families professionals and community partners.
  • Develops and maintains clear accurate and accessible content on disability and intellectual/developmental disability (IDD) topics for inclusion in the organizations resource guide and related materials. Ensures information is regularly reviewed culturally responsive and aligned with current best practices and community needs.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of local statewide and federal IDD services and resources.
  • Makes program activities accessible to different cultural communities in terms of disability language culture location and other cultural issues through utilizing The Arc of King Countys diverse staff team and/or interpreters (over the phone or in person).
  • Attends and hosts resource fairs presentations and educational workshops where information about The Arc of King County and IDD resources are shared.

Essential Functions

  • Communicates in a timely and thoughtful manner with participants co-workers and community members. Such as:
    • Responds to emails and calls within 1-2 business days.
    • Shares materials with teammates or consults with supervisor.
  • Maintains timely and thorough documentation. Such as:
    • Reporting hours worked on a daily basis in the payroll record keeping system.
    • Meets monthly deadline to log cases and events in Salesforce.
    • Maintains an up-to-date Outlook calendar.
  • Facilitate virtual and in-person educational sessions for adult learners using strong teaching and classroom management skills to create an inclusive engaging and supportive learning environment that meets the diverse needs of participants.
  • Collaborates with co-workers when asked. Such as:
    • Regularly attends staff or team meetings
    • Work with teammates to develop and present new curriculum and webinars.
  • Self-starter: Able to independently identify what needs to be done and does it to completion
  • Time management: Uses time efficiently and productively to complete tasks in a timely manner and able to manage time to ensure completion of conflicting obligations and demands.
  • Professional growth: Shows willingness to learn and apply new skills. Such as:
    • Corrects action when coached on performance.
    • Evaluates activities for effectiveness.
    • Attends and actively participates in professional development opportunities taking away applicable information and effectively applying and utilizing them.
  • Personal relations: Is flexible and courteous with clients/participants; empathetic while keeping professional boundaries. Such as:
    • Listens attentively.
    • Follows through in a timely manner.
    • Is supportive and helpful.
    • Provides relevant updates when available.
  • Reliability:
  • Can be counted on to complete job duties.
  • Does not leave team waiting for deliverables.
  • Communicates when foreseeable timeline changes on projects or deliverables is needed

  • Work hours typically occur between 8:30 AM 4:30 PM Monday-Friday with some flexibility
  • Requires evening and weekend work with advanced notice
  • Ability to efficiently go out into the community to attend events meet with clients and other activities.

Hours/Salary/Benefits

This is a full-time hourly position scheduled 40 hours per week Pay for this position is $26.02 per hour.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals of diverse economic ethnic and social backgrounds
  • An understanding of concepts around anti-racism and social justice and their intersection with the disability community with ability to apply them to the work being performed.
  • Ability to learn about I/DD and community resources through experience on-the-job training and other professional development opportunities and relay that information effectively to individuals with I/DD and their families
  • Ability to learn and implement State of Washington Mandatory Reporting requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to respond to emails and complete tasks in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrated experience of communication and interpersonal skills that is clear compassionate and effective.
  • Demonstrated ability to persevere in the face of obstacles
  • Experience in using MS Office Suite (e.g. Word Excel PowerPoint Outlook etc.) and able to learn and use other required technology
  • Knowledge of Salesforce database systems a plus but not required.
