You will be updated with latest job alerts via emailThe Senior Database Administrator (DBA) will ensure that production databases within the Land & Resources Cluster (MNR) are operational secure and optimized. The role involves working with analysts developers and IT services teams to implement and maintain robust database solutions aligned with provincial policies and business requirements.
The resource may also support Bill 5 Protect Ontario by Unleashing Our Economy Act 2025 initiatives as needed.
Key ResponsibilitiesEnsure production databases are operational secure and optimized.
Work with analysts and business stakeholders to define requirements and implement technical solutions.
Manage database security mechanisms in compliance with provincial data security policies (e.g. FIPPA).
Upgrade and manage corporate database schemas to support new data integrations.
Provide technical leadership to development teams on Oracle and database technologies.
Lead development and implementation of database management standards guidelines and processes.
Ensure compliance with provincial cluster and ministry database management policies.
Represent the cluster in committees and working groups on data management standards.
Mentor and guide programmers and analysts in database design and performance optimization.
Technical Knowledge (40%)
Relational database management administration and information architecture.
Data modeling techniques and use of CASE tools.
Database development methodology relational concepts SQL PL/SQL.
Oracle tools and technologies: Oracle Oracle APEX Oracle Enterprise Manager Toad ArcGIS DB.
Server-based and personal computing technologies.
Knowledge of UML Use Cases and systems engineering practices.
Familiarity with Ontario government IT policies and standards.
Analytical & Problem-Solving (30%)
Analyze client requirements operations and business goals.
Develop project plans database design requirements and standards.
Coordinate design development testing and implementation of databases.
Research and evaluate new data management tools techniques and methodologies.
Troubleshoot complex database performance and security issues.
Communication & Interpersonal Skills (25%)
Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Prepare technical documentation database policies and reports.
Conduct training sessions and mentor team members.
Negotiate with vendors for hardware/software solutions.
Present recommendations and updates to senior management.
Government/Public Sector Experience (5%)
Previous experience working in a government environment is an asset.
Experience in relational database administration and information architecture.
Strong skills in data modeling and use of information engineering tools.
Ability to analyze client operations business goals and requirements.
Strong documentation and policy-writing skills.
Experience delivering technical training sessions.
