Nature of Work

The fundamental reason this classificationexists is to develop and implement recreational activities for all communitycenters in Montgomery County. Incumbents are assigned to a specialized area ofexpertiseoutdoor recreation or general/creative addition Specialistshave management oversight over a group of the smaller community centers. The workresponsibilities for the position include the following: planning anddeveloping recreation programs; administering recreation programs; promotingrecreation programs; providing management oversight to a group of smallercommunity centers; and performing other related administrative duties. TheRecreation Area Supervisor differs from the Recreation Specialist in that theSupervisor has oversight over the larger community centers as well as theSpecialists who have oversight over recreation programming and smallercommunity centers. Incumbents report directly to the Recreation Area Supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelors degreein recreation administration sports management or a related field and oneyear of experience programming for a variety of outdoor recreational activitiesand two years of experience supervising employees involved in the provision ofrecreational services.

NOTE:Qualifying education training and experience that provide the requisiteknowledge skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.

Special Requirements

Work on holidays nights and weekends isrequired to ensure availability of programs and events to the community. A commercial drivers license (CDL) must beobtained after the probationary period in order to transport participantsand/or equipment to various event sites.

Kind of Examination
