Position Overview
The Associate Director for Public Service is responsible for providing excellent customer service to all staff and customers. The Associate Director for Public Service interprets and implements the direction of the Library to assigned staff members in the areas of supervision Board policy procedures programs and collection development. The Associate Director for Public Service is responsible for clearing barriers to service.
Essential Functions
- Supervises managers and supports them in managing of their teams
- Coaches and advises managers on the operations of their location
- Works with managers to help set direction
- Participates in employee discipline and termination as needed
- Leads monthly Branch Manager meeting
- Makes regular and special visits to locations observing operations and condition of facility
- Responsible for customer service training and oversight for branch staff/mission enhancements
- Engages with external customers to resolve conflict
- Set standards for customer service
- Resolve customer issues involving multiple departments
- Plan and coordinate customer service initiatives
- Hires and trains management and work with managers on hiring of all branch staff
- Hires managers and assistant managers
- Trains managers and provides professional development opportunities
- Works with HR on the hiring process of branch/mission enhancement staff
- Provides oversight in the hiring process for all branch/mission enhancement staff
- Participates in planning implementation and communications of system wide procedures programs and services
- Facilitates communication between branches and departments
- Coordinate services between branches and departments
- Serves as a member of the libraries cross functional tactical team
- Works with departments to create system wide guiding principles
Education and Experience
- Masters of Library Science Degree Required
- 5 years library and/or supervisory experience preferred

- Job Knowledge including Librarianship

- Sufficient ability to train staff on intellectual freedom practices
- Technology including specific applications hardware and coding languages
- Intermediate knowledge of Paycor Teams Microsoft office 365 applications including Word Outlook Excel and Teams is necessary to perform this position at satisfactory level.

Work Environment
- (Indoor/Outdoor) Works both indoors and outdoors and must have considerable tolerance for weather conditions dust mold scents allergens and communicable diseases which enable the employee to work outside at a facility handle construction and library materials work in older buildings and on jobsites and interact with coworkers and the public.
