Job Duties
Sitter & Barfoot Veterans Care Center; named for two Medal of Honor recipients Colonel Van Barfoot and Colonel Carl Sitter provides the gold standard in quality care for Virginias Veterans. This single-level facility features 200 single-occupancy rooms across four nursing units.
Sitter & Barfoot Veterans Care Center is seeking an Activities Coordinator for the 8:30A-5:00P EST Shift. This position does also require weekends on occasion and may require work on holidays.
Job Summary:
The Activities Coordinator is responsible for assisting the Activities Director in providing approved therapeutic recreation programs for residents. They will assist in carrying out department and facility objectives as part of total patient care and for ensuring the protection of residents during activities as well as compliance with all safety policies and regulations.
Job Requirements:
Assist in the design and development of recreational and leisure programs to meet the assessed needs interests and capabilities of residents in Long-Term Care.
Coordinate multiple activities each day.
Assist residents in acquiring knowledge related to leisure resource utilization (such as electronic assistance face-timing assistance etc.).
Assess and document residents abilities and needs.
Attend resident evaluations conferences and all other appropriate meetings as needed or necessary.
Confer with other Center staff supervisors and families regarding resident interest needs and limitations.
Complete all required paperwork (such as assessments progress notes MDS assessments CAAs Care plans etc.) to ensure that all activities conform to the criteria of federal state and local accreditation and licensing agencies or organizations.
Document residents level of involvement in activities and/or of any changes in involvement.
Participate in the Orientation of new employees.
Follow all safety rules and regulations.
Perform all additional duties as required/assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma GED or equivalent diploma.
1 year prior experience working in activities in Long Term Care therapeutic recreation or similar field.
Demonstrated knowledge of recreational activities.
Demonstrated knowledge of conducting resident activities.
Ability to turn bend and lift without restrictions or accommodations.
Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer service.
Possess basic knowledge of computer software such as Microsoft Office.
Ability to effectively communicate both written and orally.
Additional Considerations
Experience working in a long-term care or adult geriatric setting.
