Basic Function: | Under limited supervision support student success by providing guidance on academic planning degree requirements and university resources while fostering student development and retention. Reports to designated supervisor. |

Examples of Duties: | Duties/essential functions may include but not be limited to the following: Work with students to develop attainable educational and academic goals and provides input on related majors minors and future educational and career options. Provide comprehensive information about academic requirements university policies degree progress and program options to help students make informed decisions. Proactively monitor student progress identify potential obstacles to timely graduation and develop strategies to support their academic success. Connect students with relevant campus resources support services and faculty who can assist with individual needs. Provide input on probation reinstatement and dismissal. Create and maintain updated student records and notes. Assist with advising components of recruitment and orientation events. Supervise student employees. Train new Academic Advisor I staff. Present or participate in workshops on academic skills study skills and expectations for students. Attend training to stay current with evolving academic policies university procedures and best practices in academic advising to enhance professional knowledge and skills. Perform related duties as assigned. |

Minimum Qualifications: | Bachelors degree and three years of experience in academic advising or closely related field OR Masters degree and one year of experience in academic advising or closely related field. License/Certification: Knowledge Of: Desktop software * Higher education organizational structure Core advising competencies
Organization problem solving and decision-making * Written and interpersonal communication with the ability to communicate effectively with all components of the university (faculty staff and students/families) * Ability To: Maintain confidentiality in sensitive situations * |
Preferred Qualifications if applicable: | Experience providing academic advising to college/university students. Experience using student information systems (e.g. Banner and EAB Navigate 360). |
