Job Description

Site Reliability Engineering Expert (enablement/consultant)

As a Tech Site Reliability Engineering Expert your position will be twofold. You are SRE expert for a specific IT Domain (60%) AND for a specific technology process (40%).

You will work within the entity SRE Team of Tech DBNL positioned in our Engineering & Reliability department together with other SRE experts process experts and engineering experts.

As an SRE expert connected to one of the five IT Domains in Tech DBNL you drive the SRE mindset and way of Work within the domain you are assigned to. For this you will use your in-depth knowledge of SRE together with your technical expertise.

Within the IT Domain you keep track of improvement items that come from root cause analysis and projects that improve IT platform reliability. You also act as an advocate or trusted voice to the IT Lead and IT area leads in signaling where improvement or impediments need to be applied within the organization and your domain. However reliability is dependent on the engineers and you need to support them in all aspects of reliability ensuring that reliability standards are met is your main concern. Reliability impediments that stem from outside your domain are driven to resolution by you as SPOC for the domain.

You are the main point of contact between the entity SRE team and its domain. You will attend the IT domains MT meetings to ensure the best alignment between Engineering & Reliability department and the IT domain and to make sure reliability improvements receive the right priority.

Role & responsibilities

The role of SRE expert is very versatile with many opportunities to grow and make a difference. It combines technical knowledge with people skills and interacts with all levels of the organization.

  • Be an advocate for reliability towards the leadership and engineers of the IT Domain you are assigned to.
  • Determine an effective roadmap regarding the SRE services that can help the domain; training onboarding help on tooling etc. And then execute this roadmap within the domain.
  • Use your network to make teams enthusiastic to onboard and make proper use of the monitoring suite.
  • Monitor reliability-related processes in the domain and support where needed (e.g. Incident and problem management (including Post Mortems) process workflows in ServiceNow).
  • Provide feedback to teams and management.
  • Help squads and POs in their discussions on appropriate Service Level Indicators (SLIs) and Service Level Objectives (SLOs).
  • Participate in cross entities initiatives with global teams to help shape INGs Observability direction.

How to succeed

We are looking for a broad skillset comprising both modern-day and legacy IT stacks. Knowledge of coding testing and CI/CD standards. And someone who has a healthy dose of curiosity. and is not afraid of a challenge no matter what the subject is. Impediments are there for you to get solved neglecting them is a direct crime in your book.

Currently we are looking for someone that feels they fit the description above and has the below technical skill set.

  • Extensive knowledge of IT tools to share and collaborate
  • Good Knowledge of at least one programming language (Java is nice to have Python is key)
  • Experience with observability tools like Prometheus Loki and ELK stack
  • Experience in dashboard creation with Grafana is a must
  • Good knowledge of containers and cloud tooling
  • Good Knowledge of Oracle DBMS (and SQL)
  • Ability to understand customer and engineer
  • Problem-solving mentality
  • A strong voice and healthy skepticism.
  • Good communication and social skills.

Nice to have skills

  • Good knowledge of IT security principles
  • Knowledge of cryptography crypto protocols and algorithms
  • Good knowledge of Networking and IPV4 and IPV6 stacks
  • Extensive knowledge of Linux/Unix Operating system RHCSA and RHCE are nice to have
