Description

The Outpatient Behavioral Health Counselor works as a member of Outside Ins Outpatient treatment team providing trauma-informed care utilizing evidence-based models.

Essential Duties

  • Participate on treatment team providing Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Motivational Interviewing.

  • Participate in outreach activities necessary to offer services and engage participation in a non-coercive manner.

  • Provide initial comprehensive assessment and re-assessments of participants including mental status exam DSM diagnosis and clinical formulation.

  • Facilitate development of a Care Plan with participants.

  • Recommend additional services and supports that will enhance the clients care plan.

  • Conduct treatment services consistent with professional judgement and licensure (if applicable) as identified on Care Plan including individual and group counseling and skills interventions.

  • Collect treatment outcomes related to behavioral health counseling.

  • Utilize Feedback Informed Treatment model to monitor quality and inform treatment.

  • Participate in admission and discharge planning for any participant needing hospitalization or subacute level of care.

  • Provide PTO coverage as needed in coordination with other members of the team/program.

  • Provide advocacy and assist participants in accessing the services and other resources they need.

  • Ensure timely documentation of services and outcomes.

  • Adhere to all state and federal privacy regulations including HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2 and to Outside In policies and agreements regarding confidentiality privacy and security.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Knowledge and Skills

Knowledge

  • Thorough knowledge of relevant treatment models including Dialectal Behavior Therapy (DBT) Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Motivational Interviewing.

  • Knowledge and understanding of biopsychosocial development across the lifespan especially in adolescence and emerging adulthood Trauma Informed Care Stages of Change Theory and harm reduction.

Skills

  • Strong organizational skills attention to detail and focus on data collection.

  • Ability to work with a variety of clients and diagnostic categories.

  • Ability to work with a diverse population and interact effectively with different types of people.

  • Good communication and conflict resolution skills.

  • Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team.

  • Ability to support agency goals and the operational functioning of the Behavioral Health Department.

  • Ability to complete all required documentation and information input in a professional thorough and timely manner.

  • Commitment to continual learning and quality performance.

  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries and performance at all times.

  • Ability to navigate technologies used in this position including Epic Electronic Health Record MS Office Applications and Windows Server.

  • Skills ability and commitment to working with LGBQTI and other culturally diverse youth and staff

Preferred Skills

  • Spanish fluency

  • Valid drivers license.

  • Ability to be insured to drive participants in agency vehicle and car share.

Education and Experience

  • Masters degree in a human services field and meet State guidelines for QMHP required.

  • Oregon LPC or LCSW required for BH Counselor 2 position.

  • At least two years experience in mental health counseling and/or support services required.

  • Extensive education or training in mental health treatment diagnosis and clinical interventions.

  • Experience providing Dialectical Behavior Therapy preferred.

  • Additional credential in Chemical Dependency counseling equivalent to CADC I preferred.

  • Dual diagnosis counseling experience preferred.

  • Training and/or supervision in Dialectical Behavior Therapy preferred.

  • Experience with other relevant treatment models including Acceptance Commitment Therapy and/or Motivational Interviewing preferred.

Working Conditions

This job is located in a standard office environment. There is some exposure to outdoor weather while walking to surrounding sites. The employee may visit clients in their home and surrounding community as needed. Some after-hours work may be required.

Physical Requirements

  • Must pass pre-employment background check. This includes clearance by the DHS Background Check Unit.

  • Standing sitting walking on a regular basis.

  • Regular use of hands and fingers to type.

  • Talking and hearing is required on a regular basis.

  • Availability to provide coaching calls after hours and during holiday coverage rotation.

  • Occasional driving climbing balancing reaching kneeling crouching stooping and lifting.
