ROLE DESCRIPTION:

STR a CoStar group company is seeking a Nashville-based Data Analyst to support CoStar product analytics and insights efforts and ensure STR maintains its position as a leading provider of forward-looking hotel performance data worldwide. This role demands an efficient data-driven thinker with excellent forecast and analytic skills and a strong understanding of US hospitality performance. The Analyst will be part of a global analytics team responsible for producing hotel performance forecasts and analytics on a regular basis alongside actionable narratives and the integration of other data sources to enhance the analysis.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Data Analysis Visualization and Storytelling

  • Forecasts various segments of hotel performance quarterly using advanced statistical concepts maintaining and improving methodology as necessary to improve forecast accuracy.
  • Uses Power BI Tableau and/or SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) to access manipulate and analyze hotel performance data.
  • Analyses large hotel performance data sets to unearth key trends by market location type hotel type demand sources concisely communicates findings visually and in writing.
  • Undertakes primary and secondary research as needed to understand hotel industry dynamics economic conditions and other factors that affect hotel performance feeding that research back into hotel forecasts as appropriate.
  • Converts complex data and findings into compelling and easily digestible tables graphs and reports while adhering to STR style and branding.
  • Constantly evaluates the way STR data is presented and seeks new ways of doing so to make it more meaningful and useful for clients.
  • Contributes analyses to blogs articles and white papers which are distributed to clients and stakeholders on a regular basis.

Data Integrity Security and Quality

  • Maintain high levels of data quality and accuracy by applying and maintaining process and robust review. Investigates anomalies and potential errors in data to understand the root cause and find resolution.
  • Adhere to STRs standards and guidelines for data confidentiality.

Personal and Professional Development:

  • Maintain proactive and open communication with the Product team as well as STRs global analyst teams whose members sit in different offices throughout the world.
  • Keep up to date on hotel industry trends and news with particular emphasis on the facts that affect hotel performance.
  • Ensure CoStar brand and corporate values are evident to the customer at all times.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors degree in data science statistics economics or hospitality management from an accredited not-for-profit university or college
  • A track record of commitment to prior employers
  • At least 2 years of experience analyzing visualizing and conducting research to explain data and validate information.
  • Must be adept in use of MS Office applications particularly Excel PowerPoint and Word.
  • Experience using SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) Power BI Tableau or another tool for data analysis and visualization.
  • Customer-focused with excellent relationship-building skills and the ability to present to clients.
  • Adaptable to changing working environments priorities and organizational needs.
  • Results-oriented with the ability to plan prioritize and execute tasks independently or as part of a team.
  • Strong decision-making skills making timely decisions based on available information and taking ownership of decisions.
  • Proficient in writing about and presenting trends and insights to relevant stakeholders both internal and external.
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills with the ability to manage multiple projects within tight deadlines across different time zones.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong understanding of the hotel industry with experience working within the industry particularly revenue management.
  • Familiarity and experience using Python R or another data programming language.
