Qualifications for this Career Opportunity
Skill in programming in Statistical Analysis System (SAS) Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) or R statistical software.
Ability to manipulate and analyze large complex data sets.
Skill in descriptive and inferential statistical analysis.
Meet minimum qualifications:
Masters degree in epidemiology statistics program evaluation or a closely related degree.
Three years of job-related experience in epidemiology or similar field.
Experience in program evaluation and geographic information systems preferred.
Other combinations of directly related education and experience may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

The Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) has a career opportunity within the Public Health and Safety Division in Helena.
The epidemiologist studies the occurrence of disease and other health-related conditions or events in defined populations in order to implement prevention and control measures. This position is responsible for statewide coordination of chronic surveillance reporting activities as well as support for local public health system assessment and development. Topic areas may include but are not limited to: arthritis Alzheimers and injury prevention. Responsibilities include analyzing surveillance data such as health indicators risk factors and disease surveillance information; analyzing programmatic and service-related data; designing coordinating and managing special surveillance and/or evaluation procedures where there is no other existing data available; developing and conducting various trainings related to epidemiological and program evaluation issues; and designing and conducting program evaluations.
