The Senior Systems Engineer Lead Systems Verifications role is responsible for leading a team of engineers through all aspects of the Verification and Validation portion of the systems engineering lifecycle (right side of the Systems Engineering V). As a Systems Verification Lead Engineer you will be responsible for developing and implementing verification strategies and plans leading a team to create and execute test procedures and providing technical support for Integrated Modular Avionics (IMA) systems. You will coordinate with sub-system verification teams to ensure seamless integration of verification artifacts at the systems level and collaborate with customers during process and development assurance audits. Additionally you will advise on test equipment integration address technical challenges and track Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to monitor progress and ensure quality across all verification activities.

Systems engineering is a cross-functional engineering discipline centered on the process of designing integrating verifying and managing complex systems over their life cycles. At its core systems engineering focuses on working with customers to elicit and document system requirement certification approach interface with third-party systems using the IMA resources decompose and validate requirements for the building blocks that make up the system drives early and frequent integration of blocks together and ensures adequate verification of the various levels to complete the certification process for the system.

In this position you will have opportunities to collaborate on architecture requirements interfaces and integrations while focusing primarily on: testing and verification of complex hardware/software for aviation-based systems while mentoring others. This role collaborates with key subject matter experts and engineering project managers on project planning execution bid estimations and project performance. This position can influence and lead departmental operations team member development (mentoring) and hiring. The role is expected to identify verification and validation technical and schedule risks within a project. A self-starter will excel here. Sound judgment and leadership skills are required to drive success.

Location: Candidate is to be local to the greater Grand Rapids MI area.
Relocation Package (assistance) is available.
Work Schedule: Hybrid 3 days/week on-site in Grand Rapids (Tuesdays Wednesdays & Thursdays). Optional to work remotely: Mondays and Fridays as work supports.

Job Description

This position will be responsible for leading guiding and contributing to all technical aspects of the related project(s) across GEs Common Core Systems (CCS) based on Integrated Modular Avionics (IMA) technologies for Systems Engineerings Verification and Validation. This role provides technical leadership and assistance to project teams to insure they consistently deliver on cost quality schedule and technical milestones.

This position has the following essential responsibilities:

  • Develop overall verification strategies and plans to ensure system compliance and performance.

  • Lead a team to develop review and execute verification test procedures.

  • Provide technical support to the team on a wide range of issues related to Integrated Modular Avionics (IMA).

  • Coordinate with sub-system verification teams to ensure effective use of verification artifacts at the systems level.

  • Collaborate with and advise customers during process and development assurance audits.

  • Develop and track Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) related to verification activities to monitor progress and ensure quality.

  • Ability to direct and influence the Systems Engineering Lifecycle for IMA products/technologies.

  • Crafts and/or contributes to the development of project verification plans in accordance with GE Aerospace processes customer expectations and certification authority requirements.

  • Develop architecture and trade studies as needed to comply with customer requirements.

  • Crosstrain and mentor other Systems Engineers in the systems engineering discipline.

  • Drive and support engineering reuse within the IMA product line.

  • Solves engineering problems directly with the customer.

  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to the teams running projects within the product line. This includes supporting the engineering leads and project managers with project planning conducting reviews metrics development/tracking forecasting development processes and risk and opportunity management.

  • Supports the engineering leads and project managers with the timely delivery of systems requirements integrated validation/verification activities and issue resolution.

  • Support the initiation of new projects to insure they are well planned in accordance with the product roadmap the overall product line strategy and engineering process requirements.

  • Lead/manage interdisciplinary collaboration with software hardware test safety maintainability reliability certification and others teams.

  • Escalate issues that need additional engineering or business leadership assistance in a timely manner.

  • Uses best judgment and proven experience to make decisions or solve complex tasks/problems in areas of operational/product management manufacturing technology or engineering as needed.

  • Takes a new perspective on existing solutions a fresh set of eyes.

  • A proponent of continuous improvement and a willingness to champion new ideas.

  • Aligns with a fail fast mentality with resilient mindset to solve problems.

  • Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience.

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering Physics Mathematics Computer Science or relatable field of study. Master of Science in similar field preferred.

  • 10 years of experience in integration validation and verification within an engineering product development environment.

  • US Citizen:This role requires use of technical data subject to U.S. Government contract restrictions and this posting is only for U.S. Citizens. GE will require proof of status prior to employment.

  • Ability to travel 10%.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Knowledge of the Boeing 777x and 787 airplane and related systems.

  • Prior experience working within an Avionics Design Assurance Level (DAL) A Environments (most critical)

  • DO-297 ARP 4754A DO-178C DO-254 and/or DO-330 process assurance experience.

  • Experience with engineering processes including requirements definition requirements allocation requirements validation requirements verification integration embedded software electronic systems FAA/EASA/NAA certification and system safety.

  • Able to communicate directly with senior leadership inside and outside the company.

  • Ability to translate technical information to business leaders and/or customers.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams in development integration validation and/or verification of systems.

  • Broad experience that allows the candidate to understand and translate between different engineering disciplines.

  • Strong systems engineering thought process on design requirements and verification.

  • Ability and desire to mentor other engineers in key technical areas.

This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information.
