About the Role
We currently have an exciting opportunity to join Leicestershire County Council as a Healthy Places Health is one of six departments within the County Council exercising the full range of public health duties including the delivery and commissioning of services. The Director of Public Health is a chief officer of the council reporting directly to the Chief Executive. This position reports to the Strategic Lead responsible for the Wider Determinants of Health. The post holder will support the Strategic Lead to deliver projects and programmes within the wider determinants of health portfolio.
This is a varied interesting and rewarding role which provides individuals with an opportunity to develop their understanding of the wider range of determinants and their impact on health as well as their broader public health skills working with partners across the system as well as within the Council.
The role will include large elements of partnership working alongside input into projects policies strategies campaigns and consultations to embed health considerations with the aim of reducing health inequalities. The portfolio area itself is broad and takes a life course approach covering areas such as air quality planning and the built environment and Health in All Policies. The role will lead on the operational elements of the wider determinants portfolio and including the creation and review of health impact assessments and will be expected to apply their expertise in planning and the built environment to embed health within local development and spatial planning processes.
We are looking for an individual with a passion for improving health and wellbeing. Experience of working in areas related to planning public health or air quality are desirable and candidates with a background in planningparticularly in relation to the built environmentare strongly encouraged to apply. People skills and flexibility are essential in this fast-paced portfolio area alongside experience good communication. Support will be provided to develop knowledge across the portfolio.
As well as being suitably qualified candidates will need to have experience ofpartnership working working independently to set deadlines and influencing change.
