Job Summary

We annually serve thousands of individuals in over 25 communities throughout Chicago. Our services include counseling 24-hour crisis intervention substance abuse prevention and treatment family strengthening juvenile justice services youth The Intact Family Services Caseworker is responsible for providing family-based intervention and family preservation services to families who are open intact family cases.
This position serves Cook County and requires fluency in both English and Spanish (verbal and written).
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Conducts initial and ongoing assessments of strengths needs and risk factors in accordance with the Intact Family Services plan.
  • Develops and implements service plans in collaboration with clients family in accordance with the Intact Family Services plan. Directs implementation of client services and treatment goals. Makes referrals to community service providers to address issues such as housing mental health substance abuse treatment or domestic violence.
  • In accordance with each familys service plan provides case management mentoring advocacy support and education that will protect children and preserve families. Counsels individuals regarding issues including but not limited to parenting unemployment housing substance abuse domestic violence trauma childcare and/or medical care.
  • Completes and maintains case notes client records reports and other required documentation according to organizations guidelines for completeness accuracy and timeliness.
  • Complies with all pertinent state and federal laws DCFS Rules and Procedures and the Code of Ethics for Child Welfare Professionals. Provides court testimony related to services provided to clients as required. Informs the supervisor of any legal issues related to agency services.
  • Represents the organization in a positive professional light to active and potential clients referral and funding sources and the general public.
  • Enhances professional competence through appropriate training activities and ongoing awareness of developments in the child welfare field.
  • Participates in the Peer Review process for client files. Contributes to quality improvement through active participation in Quality Improvement activities.
SPECIFIC EXPECTATIONS:
  • Must be bilingual in English/Spanish with ability to read write and speak English and Spanish fluently.
  • Maintains and expresses positive attitude about their job the service constituencies and the organization.
  • Responds to clients and/or customers within 24 hours.
  • Carry an average caseload of 10 to 12 families. When program needs are high number may increase.
  • Participate in on call crisis rotation per crisis plan.
  • Meet all the requirements in DCFS Rule .388 and the FY21 Program Plan.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelors degree in social work and one year of child welfare experience OR a bachelors degree in a related field and three years of child welfare experience.
  • Bilingual in Spanish fluently (oral and written) required.
  • Previous DCFS Foundations training and Illinois Child Welfare Employee License (CWEL) or be eligible for and able to obtain upon hire.
  • Willingness and ability to work evenings and weekend hours as needed to meet the needs of the agency and the families we serve.
  • Must pass drug screen and necessary background checks.
  • Must travel for job responsibilities including the ability to drive distances to enter the homes of families in the service area. Posses a valid Illinois drivers license that has not been revoked or suspended within the past three years and the use of a personal vehicle with adequate insurance.
