Credit cards are an invention of the 1950s. Every payment innovation since then has been built on top of antiquated architecture that taxes both consumers and businesses alike. It involves far too many middlemen each of which takes their cut. The end result is that payments technology ends up being a tax on everyone and everything. So were fixing it.
