Description

Performs quality echocardiographic studies assisting physicians in diagnosing and monitoring various cardiac conditions enabling the delivery of accurate and timely patient care. This role requires a combination of technical proficiency interpersonal skills and a commitment to patient well-being.



Responsibilities
  1. Prepares and examines all patients verifying their identity for ultrasound examinations in accordance with established departmental procedures and techniques which includes obtaining health status and medical history patients cooperation or ability to tolerate the that the ultrasound examination correlates with patient clinical history and physician in charge of any contraindications or changes needed to the procedure.
  2. Communicates with the patient explaining the exam and instructions answering questions that are unrelated to specific diagnostic treatment and/or prognosis.
  3. Develops and/or modifies a procedure plan from health status and medical history using age and gender appropriate considerations. Uses independent professional judgment to adopt the procedure plan to optimize exam results. Performs exams under general or direct physician supervision as defined by the procedure adjusting scanning technique to optimize image qualify and spectral waveform characteristics.
  4. Analyzes sonographic findings so comprehensive exams sufficient for a physician to direct patient management and render a diagnosis can be obtained. Perform measurements and calculations according to laboratory and IAC protocols and guidelines. Minimize patient exposure to acoustic energy without compromising exam quality or completeness.
  5. Notifies appropriate health care provider when immediate medical attention is needed. Evaluates patients physical and mental status prior to discharge from the ultrasound department.
  6. Records diagnostic images and data for use by the interpreting physician in rendering a diagnosis and for archival purposes. Provides a summary in Studycast.
  7. Applies the necessary technical judgment to obtain studies of an acceptable diagnostic quality according to written protocols and the patients needs.
  8. Assists prepares and positions patients as required to perform Echo procedures.
  9. Provides patient education relevant to specific imaging procedures by informing the patient of the nature of the procedure the area to be imaged and any specific instructions the patient may need.
  10. Ensures all images are appropriately labeled as specified by the department SOP.
  11. Assists with QA/QC program ensuring compliance with all regulatory agency requirements.
  12. Assists physician directly as required during procedures (e.g. Bubble studies Ablations etc.)
  13. Ensures images are transmitted to Studycast in a timely fashion.
  14. Ensures Echo room and equipment cleanliness at the start and at the end of the shift to include removal of soiled or dirty linen.
  15. Maintains supplies and accessories in imaging room necessary to safely perform duties as required.
  16. Accurately records all required patient tracking information and exam notes into Epic and Studycast.
  17. Ensures that all studies performed are correct and completed in Studycast immediately after completion of exam.
  18. Performs related clerical duties in the absence of support personnel.
  19. Informs supervisor or appropriate personnel of needed repairs to equipment or unsafe conditions.
  20. Prevents the spread of infection to self patients visitors and other employees by adhering to infection control policies and protocol.
  21. Attends in-services and other professional development meetings as required.
  22. Maintains appropriate Continuing Medical Education credits.
  23. Performs related clerical duties in the absence of support personnel.
  24. Assist with department accreditation.


Qualifications
  • Associates degree (AA) or equivalent from an accredited college or technical school
  • 0-2 years of experience as Echocardiogram Technician.
  • SPI Certification and a graduate from an accredited Ultrasound Technician program and will complete the ARDMS within one year of hire. American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS and RDCS)RVT certification must also be completed within one year of hire.
