Position Summary
Every day hundreds of youth and teens ages 6 weeks to 17 years will utilize our Youth Wing within our new state-of-the-art Y engaging in activities and building new relationships with our staff and other participants. The Program Leader 1 will be part of an amazing staff team which provides enrichment and safe supervision teaches teamwork and social skills and supports youth and teens as they grow and learn. They will develop and implement program activities while also building positive relationships by providing prompt and courteous service to members participants and guests. Youth Wing staff create positive nurturing relationships with youth and teens while building cooperative relationships with families. Our programs and teams provide quality experiences to youth and parents that focus on the YMCA values: honesty respect responsibility and caring.

Essential Functions
Supervises a group of youth to ensure their health and safety and to provide a positive experience for each participant.
Implements program activities. May be asked to assist in planning activities.
Follows YMCA policies and procedures including those related to medical and disciplinary situations child abuse prevention and emergency procedures.
Professionally engages with family/guardians to provide pertinent information about their youths experience and to promote upcoming programs.
May lead a group of youth unsupervised.
Ensures that toys and equipment are clean safe set up and stored properly.
Attends staff meetings and training programs as required.
Contributes to the overall YMCA mission of healthy living youth development and social responsibility.
Follows good health practices including; changing diapers washing hands cleaning play surfaces and toys and attending to runny noses and mouths etc.
Maintains records of youth participating in program.
Immediately communicates with the appropriate leader regarding any unsafe conditions needed repairs complaints accidents or injuries.
Knows and understands the Youth Wing procedures for safety reasons along with emergency procedures of the building.
Responsible for injury/accident reporting procedures.
Maintains current knowledge of all areas of training and certifications.
Maintains a safe clean and well-organized area.
Resolves participant and parent concerns and issues.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
18 of age or older.
Must be able to pass the YMCA and DELC required background checks
Central Background Registry() required by DELC and
Background Investigation Bureau (BIB) required for all YMCA staff
At least 18 months of experience serving or working with youth ages 6 weeks to 17 years
60 hours of experience working in the program AND Completion of 20 clock hours of training completed within the last five years focused on school-age child care that meets the following core knowledge criteria:
Five clock hours in understanding and guiding behavior (UGB).
Five clock hours in learning environments and curriculum (LEC).
Five clock hours in human growth and development (HGD)
Five clock hours in program management (PM)
OR
At least 240 hours of qualifying experience working with school-age children in the last five years in a Certified Child Care Center or comparable group care program
OR
At least an AA Degree in:
Early childhood education
Child development
Elementary education
Special education
Physical education
Recreation
Human development
Child and family studies
Home economics
OR
At least a Step 8 in the Oregon Registry
Preferred Qualifications
At least 18 months of previous experience working with children; camps childcare tutoring nanny coaching.
Other applicable education training and experience which provide the knowledge abilities and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position.
Knowledge of and previous experience with diverse populations (language culture race physical activity sexual orientation etc.).
Conversationally fluent in Spanish
Previous experience planning and implementing group activities

Work Environment & Physical Demands
Ability to plan lead and participate in activities such as sports games and curriculum activities and monitor behavior inside and outside
Must be able to walk run stand sit kneel and get back to a standing position
Ability to lift and carry the weight of 50lbs
General housekeeping: mop/sweep. take the trash out wash dishes clean tables and toys stack and put baskets away and the like

YMCA PlayZone / KidZone (ages 6 weeks 11 years) will be open:
Monday - Friday 8:00am 8:00pm
Saturday & Sunday 8:00 am 6:00 pm
Creation Station/The Corner Hut (ages 12 to 17years) will be open:
Monday through Friday 10:00AM-9:00PM
Saturday10:00AM-8:00PM
Sunday10:00AM-7:00PM
Must be available to work weekends and flexible work hours to suit varied schedule for programs.
