JOB TITLE: Development Manager

REPORTS TO: Director of Development and Communications

STATUS: Full-Time/Non-Exempt

COMPENSATION: $75600 annually health insurance generous paid leave

The SF LGBT Center is not just the bright purple building that catches your eye at 1800 Market Street. It is a focal point for the LGBTQ community of San Francisco where individuals who need resources support or a safe space to gather can find comfort and celebration.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Development Manager is a key member of the SF LGBT Centers Development and Communications team responsible for implementing strategies that strengthen both institutional and individual fundraising. This position supports donor cultivation solicitation and stewardship manages campaigns and fundraising events and builds relationships with corporate and foundation partners. In addition to working closely with the Director of Development and team the Development Manager works closely with the Executive Director board members and key stakeholders to secure resources aligned with the Centers mission and commitment to racial equity and justice.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Individual Fundraising Strategy & Gift Solicitation

  • Partner with the Director of Development (DoD) and Executive Director (ED) to develop and execute fundraising strategies.

  • Cultivate and steward relationships with individual donors with a focus on gifts of $1000 annually.

  • Hold and manage a personal portfolio of donors at the Leadership and Advocate levels ($250-$1200).

  • Conduct donor and prospect research; track engagement activity and outcomes in Salesforce.

  • Participate in strategy meetings using moves management techniques to advance donor relationships.

  • Assist in identifying and cultivating planned giving prospects.

Fundraising Campaigns & Appeals

  • Plan and manage annual fundraising campaigns including direct mail email and digital efforts.

  • Evaluate and refine strategies to increase donor retention upgrades and acquisition.

  • Collaborate with the Communications team to ensure consistent and compelling fundraising messaging.

  • Manage donor benefit fulfillment and recognition efforts.

Event Management & External Partnerships

  • Lead corporate sponsorship solicitations and oversee in-kind fundraising for the annual Soire gala and other fundraising/programmatic events.

  • Cultivate and steward relationships with Soiree institutional funders

  • Coordinate with event production contractors on live auction raffles and sponsor visibility.

  • Manage donor cultivation events throughout the year (excluding Soire).

  • Represent the Center in meetings and at events with donors sponsors and community partners.

Board & Leadership Engagement

  • Support the DoD and ED in engaging the Board Fundraising Committee.

  • Provide fundraising updates including Soire sponsorship progress and financial reports.

  • Collaborate with board members on individual and corporate donor outreach and engagement.

Cross-Team Collaboration & Internal Coordination

  • Work closely with program and administrative staff to stay informed on organizational initiatives and funding needs.

  • Maintain accurate donor records in Salesforce and generate reports as needed.

  • Stay current on nonprofit fundraising best practices and trends.

  • Participate in organization-wide racial equity trainings and contribute to equity-centered fundraising practices.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • 35 years of progressive fundraising experience including individual giving and corporate or foundation fundraising.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage fundraising campaigns and donor communications.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Proficiency with CRM/donor databases (Salesforce strongly preferred).

  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office especially Word Excel and Outlook.

  • Exceptional organizational and time management abilities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Discretion diplomacy and tact when handling confidential donor information.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to engage a diverse community of stakeholders.

  • Commitment to the mission of the SF LGBT Center and cultural responsiveness to LGBTQ communities.

Preferred:

  • Experience with planned giving or leadership giving programs.

  • Familiarity with community-centric fundraising and racial equity principles.

Additional Information

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • This position is primarily office-based at the Centers 1800 Market Street location with an ability to negotiate a schedule of remote work up to a maximum of 40% time.

  • Essential physical requirements:

  • Must be able to operate a computer and other common office machinery such as a copier/fax/printer up to eight hours/day daily.

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for periods of several hours daily.

  • Must be able to lift to 20 pounds on an occasional basis.

  • Must be able to work in a shared office space with 3 or more employees in the same office with moderate levels of noise.

  • Employees in this position must be able to perform these essential functions satisfactorily and if requested reasonable accommodations will be made to enable employees with disabilities to perform the essential functions of their job.

  • Working hours are primarily Monday Friday with occasional evening and weekend work required for events and donor engagements.

  • Work schedules are negotiable within a standard 8:00 am 7:00 pm window.

  • All staff are expected to participate in the Centers racial equity and inclusion initiatives.

  • Local travel may be required to meetings or off-site events. Out-of-town travel is infrequent and negotiable. No car is required.
