  • Exciting opportunity to work collaboratively and independently in a NATA accredited freshwater and marine ecology laboratory.
  • EA Level 7A ($91691.54 base salary plus superannuation)
  • 35-hour work week
  • 12-month fixed term contract

An exciting opportunity has become available for a Water Quality Analyst in Aquatic Ecology to join the Customer Experience team within Sydney Water on a 12-month term contract.

Reporting to the Biology Laboratory Manager you will carry out field collection and laboratory identification of freshwater macroinvertebrates and laboratory identification of marine macroinvertebrates for internal Sydney Water customers as well as external customers.

Key responsibilities:

Daily duties include laboratory analysis of samples data entry quality control checks and calibrations.

  • Conduct field collection and laboratory identification offreshwater and marine macroinvertebrates.
  • Perform biological analysis of water and wastewater samples in line with established procedures.
  • Maintain high standards ofquality control including data entry calibrations and checks.
  • Collaborate with team members to meet customer needs and ensure efficient lab operations.
  • Support continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to optimise systems and processes.
  • Participate in internal audits and upholdNATA accreditationstandards.
  • Promote safety and contribute to a culture ofequity diversity and inclusion.

About you:

  • Tertiary qualifications inBiologyor a related science discipline or equivalent experience.
  • Proven experience in identifyingfreshwater and marine macroinvertebratesin a lab setting.
  • Comfortable conductingfieldworkand usingLIMS(Laboratory Information Management Systems).
  • Strong understanding ofquality assurance systems including NATA and ISO 9000.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to write clear reports using Word Excel and LIMS.
  • A team player who can also work independently and adapt to new tasks and equipment.
  • Physically fit formicroscopic analysisand committed to safe work practices.
