Job Summary

Summary
Database Administrator is responsible for the maintenance support design and planning of Department database servers and databases. Database Administrator will tend to the performance stability and integrity of Department database systems. Database Administrator will also assist Department software development teams in the proper utilization of database systems within software systems and assist with software deployments.

Must have 8 or more years experience with standard industry practices in the management of Microsoft SQL Server databases and Oracle. Database Administrator relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals independently performs a variety of complicated tasks a wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.

Objectives and Tasks
Administer DFI database servers
Recommend install maintain optimize troubleshoot and document DFI SQL Server systems
Maintain optimize troubleshoot and document DFI Oracle systems
Ensure the stability of Department database systems by managing and maintaining database backup systems.
Research and maintain currency in relevant industry trends provide recommendations for implementation of new technologies generate project plans to ensure successful adoption of new technologies.
Research install and maintain monitoring systems to ensure the Department achieves its goal of minimal downtime and peak performance.
Leverage industry standard security controls to protect agency data in coordination with Department IT Security staff.
Provide reports and schematics as directed by the Operations supervisor.
Provide support to staff and users regarding production database issues and work with IT staff to resolve any issues.

Participate in software development projects
Act as a consultant to the Bureaus Solution Delivery (SD) section to ensure seamless deployment and maintenance of business systems and applications.
Provide advanced support to developers in the creation and maintenance of performant secure database systems.
Perform system deployments to support Department software releases.

Knowledge /Skills/Ability (KSA):
1. Expert knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server
2. Knowledge of Oracle
3. Professional oral and written communication skills.
4. Problem determination and resolution skills.
5. Knowledge of Cloud technologies such as AWS and Azure.
6. Experience supporting organizations by working within a help desk ticketing system.
