Job Overview
The Automation Engineer position is responsible for overseeing automated systems with a focus on liquid handling robotics automated storage and ancillary equipment associated with lab operations. The Automation Engineer provides leadership in cGLP and Quality Management practices by analyzing business processes and implementing operational excellence to drive growth and help scale our business.
Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain all robotic instruments (Echo workstation Tecan Fluents eGecko/Scorpoion Tomtec Quadras and others) by deciding what maintenance/repairs require lab personnel attention or vendor intervention (Service Contracts)
- Maintain all other lab instrumentation (GeneVac Capper/decappers centrifuges etc.)
- Make critical decisions on SOPs final drafts processes and timing of workflows
- Train employees on department automation processes and instrumentation
- Check instrumentation data for inconsistencies missing data etc. retrieve log files as necessary and compile data for CS team or clients
- Maintain the Liquid Console/Xavo and co-signing of all orders responsibility
- Lead/delegate all Echo Robotic Workstation projects
- Collaborate with department leaders to support business needs and company objectives
- Performs technology watch in the field of automated systems or software development and presents recommendations to leadership.
- Develops a plan to minimize downtime of essential instruments and critical equipment to ensure the liquids laboratory remains productive and runs smoothly
- Engages with colleagues to evaluate the impact of implemented solutions assesses current needs and gains awareness of potential future opportunities in the context of the overall automation strategy
- Participates in system planning processes as automation subject matter expert during discussions of scope scalability and feasibility for new projects
- Drafts plans for testing and validation to ensure that the systems are operating within specification and robust against errors
Qualifications
- Expert knowledge of Tecan Fluent Tomtec Quadra and Labcyte Echo or equivalent robotic liquid handling equipment
- Proficiency with a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
- Strong problem-solving abilities
- Experience in life science biotech or pharmaceutical industries
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting
Bachelors degree in science-related field or equivalent industry experience (5 years minimum)
