DEPARTMENT: BBC Product Group Discoverability (Search)
LOCATION: London / Newcastle / Salford / Glasgow We work in a hybrid model with an expectation to attend your office base location 1 day a week on average.
SALARY RANGE: 38000 - 48000 depending on relevant skills knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

The BBC has been serving audiences online for decades across key products such as BBC iPlayer. As we evolve to deliver more personalised content and experiences Data Science is at the heart of that transformation.
As a team we use ML / AI to enrich our content and power personalised experiences for millions of audience members. Were looking for a Data Scientist to join the Product Group.

As Data Scientist youll play a hands-on role in building machine learning products at BBC scale. Working as part of a highly cross-functional team youll help overcome the challenges of deploying ML in production.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT

o Youll use your technical skills to deliver value to BBC audiences blending a breadth and depth of data science expertise.
o Youll work as part of a cross-functional team working with others to deliver value with ML in production.
o Youll develop an understanding of data science best practice including model lifecycle management and MLOps.
o Youll join the wider BBC Data Science community with internal and external opportunities to get involved.
o Youll be enthusiastic about sharing your knowledge and growing those around you.

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:


o An understanding of data science and machine learning techniques.
o Good general programming skills particularly in Python.
o The ability to contribute effectively in a cross-functional team including the ability to prioritise and work in a structured manner.
o Ability to clearly communicate to both technical and non-technical audiences.
o The ability to listen to others ideas and build on them.

ADVANTAGEOUS:


o Some working knowledge of data science best practice.
o Excited about personal development and learning with a desire to develop deep subject matter expertise.
o Excited about working in a team where data science support is new where colleagues may have varying levels of understanding of the discipline.
o Experience putting data science models in production including an awareness of cloud services and their utility within data science.
