  • Must hold Ohio Department of Education and Workforce Pupil Services Licensure/School Nurseor be willing to seek this licensure upon position offered to candidate.

    Qualifications

    • Graduate of an accredited professional nursing program with a Bachelors degree (BSN) required; Masters degree in Nursing Public Health or School Health preferred.
    • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Ohio.
    • Certification by the Ohio Department of Health to conduct vision and hearing screenings.
    • Current CPR certification.
    • Knowledge of child and adolescent development with the ability to address the social emotional and medical needs of students.
    • Understanding of occupational health and wellness as it relates to school staff.
    Experience:
    • Minimum of three to five years of professional nursing experience with prior experience in school health community health or leadership roles preferred.
    • Experience supervising or mentoring other healthcare professionals is strongly desired.

    Special Knowledge and Skills

    • Expertise in school health services population health management and prevention practices.
    • Strong leadership organizational and communication skills to direct district-wide health programs.
    • Ability to interpret and implement health-related policies and procedures in alignment with state and federal regulations.
    • Skill in collaborating with students families school staff and community health partners to promote health and wellness.
    • Ability to manage district-wide health crises and guide best practices for infection control and emergency response.
    • Capacity to establish a culture of health and well-being that supports student learning and staff wellness.

    Performance Responsibilities

    Leadership and Oversight
    • Provides leadership supervision and guidance to all school nurses in the district.
    • Coordinates evaluates and supports building-level nursing staff to ensure consistent high-quality health services across the district.
    • Serves as the districts chief health consultant advising the Superintendent Board of Education and administrators on health-related issues affecting staff and students.
    • Leads the development and implementation of district-wide health policies procedures and protocols.
    • Oversees compliance with state health mandates screenings and reporting requirements.
    Program Management
    • Directs the school health services program for the entire district including planning staffing training and evaluation.
    • Maintains standardized procedures for student health records medication administration immunization compliance and chronic disease management.
    • Ensures consistent application of policies for exclusion and readmission related to infectious and communicable diseases.
    • Coordinates health screenings prevention programs and wellness initiatives across all schools.
    • Collaborates with community agencies health departments and medical providers to enhance district-wide health resources.
    • Management and maintenance of district AED devices.
    Staff & Professional Development
    • Provides training support and professional development opportunities for school nurses and other staff regarding health and safety procedures.
    • Ensures that school staff are prepared to respond to emergencies administer first aid and manage health concerns in the absence of a nurse.
    • Evaluates nursing practices within the district to ensure compliance with professional standards and promotes continuous improvement.
    Family Student and Community Engagement
    • Serves as a liaison between schools families and healthcare providers to ensure coordinated care for students with acute or chronic conditions.
    • Communicates district health initiatives and provides education on prevention wellness and health promotion.
    • Advocates for equitable access to healthcare and wellness resources for all students and staff.
    Health Promotion and Disease Prevention
    • Implements evidence-based practices in population health including immunization compliance obesity prevention mental health support substance abuse prevention and chronic disease management.
    • Provides leadership in crisis response pandemic preparedness and emergency planning.
    • Promotes staff wellness initiatives to support a healthy workforce.

    Other Duties and Responsibilities

    • Serves as a role model for professional conduct ethical nursing practice and cultural competence.
    • Participates in district committees and state/regional networks to advance school health services.
    • Performs other duties related to health and wellness as assigned by the Superintendent or designee.

    Working Conditions

    • Occasional exposure to blood bodily fluids and tissue.
    • Requires district-wide travel to schools and community partners.
    • May involve high-pressure situations in responding to health crises or emergencies.
