Job Description

Roles and responsibilities
  • Create technical documentation: Plan develop write and edit a variety of technical documents including user manuals installation guides online help files and technical specifications.
  • Utilize Adobe FrameMaker: Use both unstructured and structured (XML/DITA) FrameMaker to manage and produce complex book-length documents leveraging features like cross-references conditional text and reusable content components.
  • Gather information: Collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs) developers engineers and product managers to understand product functionality and gather technical information.
  • Maintain consistency: Adhere to established style guides and standards to ensure consistent terminology formatting and voice across all documentation.
  • Ensure quality: Proofread and edit documents for technical accuracy grammatical correctness and readability.
  • Incorporate visuals: Work with graphic designers or use tools like Adobe Illustrator or SnagIt to create and integrate illustrations diagrams and screenshots into documentation.
  • Manage documentation lifecycle: Oversee the documentation process including planning scheduling and delivering documentation updates on time.
  • Adapt to methodologies: Work effectively within Agile development environments and project timelines.
Required skills and qualifications
  • Education: A bachelors degree in Technical Writing Communications Computer Science or a related field or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience: Specify number years of proven experience as a technical writer with hands-on experience using Adobe FrameMaker for complex documentation.
  • Adobe FrameMaker proficiency: Expertise in using both structured and unstructured FrameMaker including working with book files templates and content reuse.
  • Technical aptitude: Ability to quickly learn and understand complex technical information and translate it into clear concise language for various audiences.
  • Communication skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a keen eye for detail and a solid grasp of grammar and style.
  • Collaboration: Demonstrated ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and subject matter experts.
  • Problem-solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to anticipate user needs and address documentation gaps.
Preferred qualifications
  • Working knowledge of XML and content management systems.
  • Familiarity with Agile or Scrum development methodologies.
  • Experience writing documentation for both hardware and software products.
