Coding Specialist-Certified/Non-Certified
- Salary Range:$26 - $31.20/hour based on relevant years of experience- (Certified coding Specialists)
- Coding Specialist (non-certified) $24 - $28.80
- Location: Larimer county Colorado
- Status: 40 hours per week
- Hours: Monday - Friday
Role Overview:
Responsible for reviewing client records abstracting relevant clinical information and confirming the appropriate behavioral health and medical codes are assigned for accurate billing and reimbursement. This role will serve as quality control for the clinical team responsible for submitting their own billing.
Essential Duties:
- Review and verify documentation for diagnosis procedures and treatment results have been assigned accurate codes based on current ICD-10 CPT and HCPCS coding guidelines.
- Review codes for additional billing requirements such as modifiers number of units or place of service to ensure compliance and accurate billing.
- Ensure that codes are sequenced appropriately in accordance with federal state and payer-specific requirements.
- Review and verify coding follows behavioral health or medical coding guidelines and policies as appropriate.
- Communicate with staff to clarify ambiguous documentation or coding concerns.
- Receive research and respond to provider/clinician and management inquiries about the coding of clinical services.
- Utilizes the State Behavioral Health Services Billing Manual as a resource for behavioral health coding and keeps up to date on changes to coding regulations.
- Serve as a resource for staff.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required:
- High school diploma or completion of G.E.D. required
- Three years of experienced billing preferred.
- At least one year of experience in coding required.
- Experience utilizing an EMR required
- Experience in EPIC preferred.
- Experience in the behavioral health field preferred.
- Equivalent combination of education and experience may be evaluated and considered.
Licenses and Certifications:
- Certification from AAPC or AHIMA required (e.g. CPC CRC CCS or CCS-P)
Highly Desired:
- Bilingual/bi-cultural preferred
