IN-SCHOOL TECHNICIAN (E)
Huron Heights Secondary School
Information Technology Services

Applicants will be considered in the following order:

1) Qualified permanent ESS/OSSTF Bargaining Unit employees.

2) Qualified probationary temporary and Temporary Hourly Rated (THR) ESS/OSSTF employees.

3) Qualified external applicants (includes employees from other Bargaining Units)


The successful candidate will report to the Principal during the school year and to the Supervisor of IT Support: Operations during the summer months. The Supervisor IT Support: Operations provides the direction for technical standards IT Services Department procedures and training. The candidate will work directly with school staff through the Principal or designate to ensure the proper maintenance support and scheduling technology performed in the addition the successful candidate may be called upon to serve as a backup for other locations and to work on special ITS project teams during the summer.

The successful candidate for thisEducational Support Staff position Level E ($54369 to $65764) willwork 12 months per year 35 hours per week effective as soon as possible. Flexibility is required as hours of work may vary according to workload or assignment and overtime may be necessary for special projects and the successful candidate will be required to drive their vehicle at times.

Responsibilities
  • Support the vision philosophy and procedures of the school;
  • Provide technical support for the technology in the school;
  • Provide customer service to students and staff illustrated through well-developed organizational and soft skills (interpersonal and communication);
  • End-user account and device support as required through defined work processes and procedures;
  • Design and supervise schedules to make equipment and materials available (may include lab bookings);
  • Perform preventative maintenance and trouble shooting for media and computer equipment including daily use of Chromebooks;
  • Ensure that software is installed and functions properly on network and stand alone computers upon IT Services approval;
  • Ensure the day-to-day set up of media equipment and make arrangements for after hours functions;
  • Maintain a local inventory (asset date of purchase and warranty tracking) and security control for media and computer equipment to include and track all site based purchases and 1:1 mobile devices;
  • Order receive and return instructional materials borrowed from IT Services and from outside sources (e.g. central loan materials);
  • Work collaboratively with staff to support student learning (e.g. by assisting in the development and management of software collections by assisting the staff with the acquisition set-up and troubleshooting of technology etc.);
  • Work collaboratively with the schools administrator digital learning and CATC committee related to technical responsibilities;
  • Liaise with other areas of IT Services;
  • Work co-operatively as a member of the school and ITS team to fulfill their mandate and goals; and
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Hold a minimum a two-year community college diploma. Preference will be given to those with a diploma related to information technology. Applicants with education obtained internationally and deemed to be equivalent to a two-year community college diploma will be considered;
  • Must be able to perform the physical demands of the job including regular and consistent bending reaching above shoulder level standing for extended periods of time moving equipment pushing and pulling objects weighing up to 50 pounds / 20 kilograms and lifting objects above shoulder level with assistance;
  • Minimum of 2 years IT related work experience. Preference will be given to candidates with prior knowledge and experience with operating systems (Windows and Mac OS) system applications (e.g. SchoolConnect First Class remote client support tools Google Apps for Education) adaptive technology amplified systems interactive whiteboards printers scanners smart phones workstations the active directory structure network protocols and browsers and mobility;
  • Computing Technology Industry Association A Technical Certification (preferred);
  • Customer service training/certifications/workshops (preferred);
  • Demonstrated ability with sound lighting and radio systems an asset;
  • Well-developed troubleshooting organizational interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to deal pleasantly and tactfully with clients to successfully explain technical issues and provide excellent customer service;
  • Ability to follow outlined processes and procedures;
  • Ability to complete assigned duties with minimal supervision; and
  • Must have a valid level G Ontario drivers license and regular access to a vehicle.
