Job Description

YORK CATHOLIC DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD

Continuing Education

Invites applications for the position of:

Saturday International Language Instructors

Cantonese Farsi Italian Lithuanian Japanese Korean Malayalam Traditional Mandarin Portuguese Spanish Simplified Chinese Tamil Urdu

Secondary Program

Fall 2025/ Winter 2026

$32.08 per hour

Effective Dates: Saturdays - October 18 2025 - June 6 2026

Hours: Synchronous Class 9:00 a.m. 12:00 p.m.; Tutorial/Conferencing Time 12:00 p.m. 1:00 p.m.

Instructors are responsible for delivering a total of 110 hours of instruction. Learning will be facilitated synchronously through online classroom sessions and Google Classroom:

Instructors are expected to attend all training sessions

Instructors are expected to attend three mandatory staff meetings/PD opportunities via Google Meet (October 9 2025 from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. January 24 2026 from 1:15 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. and May 9 2026 from 1:15 p.m. to 2:15 p.m.)

Instructors will be responsible for 1 synchronous class (180 minutes in length) per week (Saturday) via google meet from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

Instructors will be responsible to meet with students for 1 hour via Google Meet in order to run tutorials and conferences with students and to answer questions after the formal class from 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Instructors are expected to maintain a Google Classroom where they will post weekly tasks and will use as a means of delivering curriculum and communicating with students

Instructors will be available to provide students with support via email on non-teaching days

Major Responsibilities:

All duties related to the planning organization and supervision of classroom instruction

Maintaining a daily log of activities lessons and student attendance

Instruct children at various levels of linguistic competence

Implement a communicative language curriculum

Assist students in the development of interpersonal intercultural and cooperative skills

Participate in extracurricular activities

Desired Qualifications and Experience:

Experience working with students and knowledge of differentiated instruction

Excellent verbal and written knowledge of the language being taught

Excellent classroom management skills

Excellent organizational and time management skills

Ability to deliver visual arts and/or drama activities with the students

Desired Qualifications and Experience:

Undergraduate Degree

Previous experience teaching International Languages

Ability to integrate cultural and linguistic activities into the classroom

International Languages Training Course Certificate

Knowledge and experience using G-Suite

Previous experience in Continuing Education programs

Experience working with children

Excellent verbal and written knowledge of the language applied for

Excellent communication skills

Excellent organizational and time management skills

An understanding of effective pedagogical practices
