Job Description
The Strait Regional (0052) invites applications from qualified candidates for the posted vacancy.
These positions are for the 2025-2026 school year across the SRCE boundary.
As part of the public education system in Nova Scotia the Strait Regional Centre for Education (SRCE) was established on April 1 2018 to deliver the public school program focusing on supporting student learning achievement well-being and overall success. The Strait Regional Centre for Education with the support of approximately 1050 employees works diligently to achieve its mission to empower our children and youth within safe equitable and inclusive environments to embrace a changing world as responsible contributing and successful lifelong 2023-2024 the SRCE operates 20 schools with approximately 5981 students; and approximately 375 children are attending pre-primary programs at 14 school locations. Located in the northeastern part of Nova Scotia the Strait Regional Centre for Educations jurisdiction encompasses the counties of Antigonish Guysborough Inverness and Richmond an area of approximately 11000 square kilometres with a population of 53742 (Census 2021).

Casual Janitor All Locations
Responsibilities:
- Clean on a daily or as scheduled basis all assigned areas of the school in accordance with established practices and standards;
- Obtain and maintain sufficient supplies on hand to carry out duties and responsibilities;
- Report any breakdowns accidents damage or vandalism to the appropriate supervisor;
- Secure all doors and windows whenever the building is vacated and activate security system if last person to vacate building;
- Perform floor care duties such as stripping sealing waxing burnishing etc.;
- Perform duties in compliance with school Operations Department and Regional Education Officepolicies and procedures including occupational health safety work routines WHMIS and evacuation plans and the laws of the Province of Nova Scotia ;
- Other related duties as assigned.
Essential Qualifications:
*Good physical health to perform janitorial and cleaner duties and the ability to lift heavy equipment (up to 50 lbs)
*First Aid and WHMIS certification or willingness to obtain;
*Effective interpersonal and organizational skills;
*Ability to communicate effectively in both the written and oral form;
*Willingness to work as part of the school support team;
*Successful completion of Regional Centre for Education Sponsored Training Program for cleaner classification or willingness to participate in program.
Desirable Qualifications:
*Knowledge of commercial cleaning methods and procedures general repair and groundskeeping
